Peace River N Da House - The arrival of Garry's VY 06 Z06

Good morning LSXtasy,

Just heading for the dike for a short run, even dug out my Smartwool socks to see if they'll keep my feet toasty.

The reason why I was thinking exhaust temperature is that we often have exhaust temeprature gauges on the larger diesel tractors to help us see how had the engine is working. There is an upper and lower range that they want to keep the engine cylinder gases at and as this was also sort of in the same place I was thinking it might be for the same purpose.

Yes, I never really heard of tuning as my car experience of 1982 probably didn't have an on-board computer so there was no easy way to make adjustments. I have heard likewise that a good tune can produce amazing results. A bad tune, lots of time and $ back in the shop.

Cheers,

Garry

EGT (exhaust gas temperature) is yet another way of measuring how a car is operating. I believe this is mostly used for diesels and forced induction (correct me if I'm wrong anyone). With sensors and therefore tuning there are so many parameters that can be monitored and tweaked accordingly. A wideband O2 sensor is one of the best tools for tuning as it is more accurate and covers a broader spectrum of air/fuel ratios.

I have to admit it would be nice to sit in on a tune and to watch the magic happen in real time.......

Garry, when you come in the spring I expect Manny and Arun will have more rides to dyno and tune that you could see.

Good evening Colin,

You are probably correct in this. I mean I could probably hang out for a week and see all sorts of great things but my stay will depend on the time of year I am there and how close to spring it is for me, my schedule with my son etc.

It will be nice to check out Dasilva first hand though for whatever amount of time I am able to stay for!

It must be Corvette heaven there.

Cheers,

Garry

For sure your time will be short -- I'll hazzard a guess that Manny could time a dyno for your visit tho.

REally looling forward to your visit and hearing how much you like the Z.

Good morning Colin,

I do wish it would be a bit less uncertain as to the when and how long for the pickup. I've had such good fortune to have so many things go my way that I always wonder when my luck is going to run out for me. Whatever amount of time I can stay for I know that it is going to be as formative in my life as finally going to see some tank museums in Europe was for me. An impact out of all real proportion. But that will be good to experience once again and it could always end up being worse - shipping hte car home instead of coming to get it. But I really can't see outside of my death how something like that would come about.

I can't imagine a day when the shop isn't busy with all sorts of interesting things to observe so I just have to make sure my camera batteries are charged up.

I really hope to meet as many forum members as I can as well. Could be my one trip there so I would want to make the most of it.

Funny enough I start to envision things with the car. Taking it to Grand Prairie to square off against the fellows there is something I am really looking forward to doing.

I expect that this should be the big week, the car assembled and dyno'ed and the results known. How exciting is that?! I can't wait to see/hear the run! Wow to be there for that, not quite like being in the delivery room but similar.

Cheers,

Garry

We are all super excited for you Garry! It's not quite like a dad in a delivery room for us but more like an uncle.

I think we should place bets on how long it takes for you to stop smiling once you pick your baby up!

Good morning Riley,

Well you're all welcome to make sure I don't hit the ground when I pass out. Please make sure I don't drive it until I've calmed down so I don't do anything stupid as well.

For me to stop smiling, I think honestly that would require some sort of surgery......

We should have a grand unveiling and invite the local press! Arrange a bevy of scantily clad girls to cavort around the car.............

Cheers,

Garry

GETTING CLOSER :D

Good morning Manny,

-27 plus a wind from the NNE at 18 km/hr = pretty darn uncomfortable to be outside. Got to give John Deere credit when a 1967 vintage diesel tractor starts still. Anticipating loading railcars, maybe tomorrow when it is due to be cooler yet........

You're right Manny, the SC does look good in black!

I have to ask another one of my questions from ignorance. The Pfadt headers were ceramic coated. But it doesn't appear to alter the appearance of the header like say powder coating would. Is this correct? I may want to be one of those people that I've laughed at in the past who drive around without the hood on their car to show off the engine compartment after this is all done!!

My day is a lot less cold and miserable now having seen these pictures. Not like -5 with no wind would make me feel but still a nice warm feeling comes over me.

Cheers,

Garry

That's right Garry , the ceramic coating does not change the appearance much , but does stay looking pretty much the same even after a few years .

Even closer as the new Rad, inter-cooler and meth pump are installed :

Nice nice nice!

Interesting deflector to bring more air into the radiator.

Manny, the boys in GP have questions.

"So is the motor just all stock parts and new pistons or what are the specs on the motor? What compression ratio did you go with?"

I didn't give them the link to the site yet as I wanted to wait for the proejct to be completed...........

Cheers,

Garry

We are using the stock Ti rods and crank , but have added Weisco forged pistons , custom cut for -6cc , giving us a 10.9 compression :D
