Lake Louise Cruise - June 3-4, 2017

Hi everyone just got off the phone with Brian to finalize the cruise on the weekend. Here's some items to update all on some details:
There is chipsealiing going on between Sylvan Lake to west of Benalto!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because of this our drive between Red Deer and Rocky Mountain House will be as follows:
  • North on Highway 2 to Asplund Road (overpass at Blackfalds)
  • West on Asplund Road to Highway 20 and turn north
  • Turn west on to Rainy Creek Road
  • Turn south on to Highway 761 and travel south to Highway 11
  • Turn west and head into Rocky Mountain House
The Banff Jasper relay is going on Saturday so we will be passing runners between Saskatchewan Crossing and Lake Louise. Maybe have some water bottles handy and we can hand them ot as we drive by. Honk and wave!

There a 3 bridges being worked on along the Bow Valley Parkway but there are paved detours so no worries here.

We will hand out the itinerary to all and the ones staying at Lake Louise will be split so half will check in and the other half fuel up. This will reduce lines at both ends. Thanks Brian for this great idea to have everyone more oranized!
Once we are in Lake Louise there are several places to eat and see Brian's post for details. I'm confirming if we can get into the Lake Louise Ski Hill parking lot for photos but this will be based on what time we get there. Lots to do and see with old and new friends!
Brian is heading to Field to see either Emerald Lake or Takakkaw Falls. Guiiiana has never been to the mountains and he wants to show her as much as possible! Looking forward to seeing her reactions! We take our backyard for granted and will be eye opening to see it through someone who has only seen this area in pictures!

Waether looks good. Brian and I were so excited talking about the weekend and Brian said that he and Jeff were just pumped driving through last weekend talking about how it will all play out. The biggest thing I want to say is let's have fun, enjoy our time together on this adventure and remember if something changes it changes. We will adapt and move on!!

See everyone in Red Deer and then Rocky Mountain House this Saturday!!!!!!

Paul, my ZR1 thanks you for finding out about the seal coating.

THIS is why I wanted to go do most of the cruise route a week before. I picked up Jeff in Drayton Valley so never did Hwy 11 between Red Deer and Rocky.

Paul and I are trying to do the best thorough planning to make this cruise a nice success

Now, I now have a girlfriend that lives in Florida. She is flying here Thursday and will be going on the mountain cruise with me....... Now, she has never ridden in a Corvette.... think she is in for a shock in my car LOL

Now, yes.... I have told her about BC, Canada. i wanna branch off and take her to BC to one of these two places... still deciding.

We will be maybe 45-60 min behind arriving to the hotel. Maybe we will miss the check in line ups possibly.... and yes, best to split up gassing up and checking in ( and then after you check in go gas up and vice versa for those who gas up first ) ... think it will help with any line ups.

between Jeff, Paul and myself we are all 3 very excited ( 3 kids in a candy store,,, Jeff, don't touch ) LOL . When Jeff kept seeing awesome views he said Giuliana will be amazed at the mountains. She is from Peru and living in Florida... and has never been to Canada.

I gave Paul some idea's and he liked them and adding them to the cruise...... looking forward to the weekend!

Hey Brian. Pending Saturday traffic and your time constraints,You should be able to show your friend both Emerald Lake and Takakkaw Falls. They're pretty close to one another and by suppertime,it's not near as busy as it will be a few hrs earlier. It would Be a shame to be that close to both those places and only pick one to show your friend. The Falls are spectacular closer to sunset. If I had to pick one though,I'd go with the Falls. And,don't forget the pull off spot for the Spiral Tunnels too.

Hopefully we luck out and see a train in the tunnel ( or coming out of one )

Ya, they are both close together.... guess we will see on the time we have. No set plans for dinner and with eating at 2-3pm at Sask Crossing it will be a late dinner I think... maybe could try do all three.

Sunset is 9-10pm... won't be there that late.

Hey MikeysZ06 ... what's this "British Columbia Tourism" promoting thing all about ... ;) (are you downhill skiing out-of-bounds?):Seeya:

I forwarded information in regard to this Cruise to give CTV and Global a heads-up in the event that they have crews covering the Marathon.
They may follow through and review this thread for more information ... just so that you are all aware ... :Snaphappy:

after all with as many going, we might become a "tourist attraction" ...

Hey Brian.
You mentioned here that your girlfriend has never been in a Corvette before.
So why is she riding with you then

That was my first thought too Eric. Not to be too critical Spence with no R but my experience with other cruises over the years tells me I am not so sure that this might not work out as well intentioned as you meant it. The main stream media, even in Albertastan, tends not to be on the side of items like our high end "gas guzzling" not electric automobiles.

Well, because I am a great guy she says..... LOL

and guys lets not make the news please.... unless we are handing out water and doing a good thing!

:)

"Corvair?" Hold on while I check my trunk, DAMN IT someone stole my engine!! I laughed when I read your post Eric! I feel for yours and Pep's sentiments but we know Spence was acting in good faith! We are a good group out to enjoy our fabulous back yard in vehicle that are pretty damn fuel efficient! I'll include this info in our drivers meeting so we represent ourselves in the best way possible, if we are asked. How the media handles it after that is thier own doing.

HEY, we could nominate a media relations guy!!!! Eric, Spence, Jeff?? Wait, depending on the questions asked we could get some interesting responses from these guys! Let's not pay any more attention to this and let it slide. We will focus on the enjoyment of why we are out on the drive and obey the rules of the road.

Whoa boys! I did not forward this to the two Media Companies with any expectation of them being interested in us as they are there for a different reason - and not ours. With knowledge of who we are and what we are doing, I doubt if it will spark any interest for them. They might have approached if they are curious in that moment and with an opportunity. Should TV media happen to approach, which I really doubt, you might choose to just send them my way .... (you may notice I make no mention of the print media)

I have no doubt whatsoever Spence was operating in good faith and well intentioned as I said. I was going by an experience I had on a Camaro cruise a couple years ago where we were filmed and painted in very bad light even though all they saw and filmed us doing was cruising through a small town at the actual speed limit. No stunting, no howling engines and no speeding because we had been warned they might be there. So when I read it my reaction was one of uhoh :). All good.

... no longer an issue for Saturday and Sunday please ... Reporter Media knows & we know that they know.
... nothing else is anticipated ... they can just report on the Marathon

I sure didn't mean to stir our pot on here (humor acknowledged) .... sorry 'bout that boyz

... with hopes of not being seen as just a bunch of Camaro-driving hooligans ( as I was once - or twice:angelic: ) ... :Cheers2:

Appears maybe that I unintentionally stirred a pot... not you Spence with no R. I certainly did not intend my satirical dialogue as any kind of critique of Spence's initiative. In actuality, I have been impressed with both the input we are seeing from the members on the forum pages lately and also the work that Paul, Brian, Jeffer, et al have put into organizing this cruise.. nuff said.... :Cheers2:

... with so much to look forward to this weekend in what is a short period of time of a few days away ... that feels like it is taking forever ... I wonder if this might be referred to as mans'trating?
