LOL Murray, yes -- a death wish for sure. It really shows how stupid some people can be at times. It certainly wouldn't surprise me to learn that some of those bike riders have already had their funerals.

Today is crappy here but at least a little warmer (10c) -- gradually warming during the week and into next week. Really hoping the 14th is good for the COPING event at Manny's. Hope to see you there.

I got to say I'm past the loud exhaust now and increasing my horsepower, not to say I don't think about every now and again LOL
Part of the deal for buying this car was no modifications. My Camaro turned into something that was not comfortable on the street and used to wake the neighbours (who are some distance away through the trees). But I still dream about it, especially after seeing some of the projects coming out of Manny's shop. If you have gobs of horsepower, respect it and enjoy the he!! out of it.

This vid has been on YouTube for many years and shows the top speed of the Suzuki Hyabusa (as well as the craziness of the rider).



Claimed top speed is 248 mph which equates to just shy of 400 kph!!!!!!!

Claimed hp is 500 and the bike weighs in at about 500 lbs. Quite the power to weight ratio.:)

INcidently that video makes my heart race. Talk about craziness of 2 wheels.

Now that video was something to watch Colin.... Those boys are either very brave or very stupid... possibly both.... I unfortunately found out the hard way that even when you feel you are in control of your motorcycle, you are not in control of the the other vehicles on the road.... I was very lucky... I broad sided a car at 110 kph and lived to tell the story.... those in the video at 300 plus would not have been so lucky I am thinking....

Garry. You have been talking about a smart car for a year now.... I think you better talk to Manny and see if he can build you a 74 rwhp/66 rwtq fortwo monster first.... first kid on a skateboard that passes you on the way to town, you're gonna be grumbling..... :Banghead:
 
Riley, I think as with most things, it is a case of what you started at and where you ended up at. 500 from where you currently stand would be a major change to your car, a totally different experience!

Funny how we end up working both Smart cars and Hayabusa's into the thread. Odder yet is someone who put a Hayabusa's engine into a Smart car!



Maybe the best of both worlds??!!

It is one of those wants and not needs. Sort of like the diesel grain truck I bought two weeks ago. Didn't need it, but the price was right and the investment was small, 2K, so I picked it up.

If I found a nice, well priced, yellow diesel Smart car I'd consider it. Just for the perceived quirkiness of the experience of owning one.

Then again if I move to Fairview ever, the majority of driving km's are going to be gone.

So started seeding yesterday. For me, major first day blues. You prepare and check the equipment over but you can't anticipate everything that will go wrong. I checked that the peas and fertilizer flowed through the hoses, yep. Did a round and ended up with 4 of 6 main feed lines plugged. Cleared them, boosted the fan speed and tried again, reseeding the same area of course. Ended up later on with 2 of the main's plugging again. Part of the problem was that the monitor in the cab has a connection or sensor problem for fan speed and the adjustment is ultra sensitive, just a tap in the lever and it goes from 3500 rpm to 4000. But every once in a while it would function and I would adjust it. It seems to be fine now.

Another problem, this one squarely on my shoulders, was that I failed to order the rhizobia that I needed for treating the pea seed (bacteria that infects the pea roots to allow them to make nitrogen for the plant to use from the air - one of the benefits of all legume type plants and part of the reason why you grow them - no nitrogen fertilizer needed! It comes in different forms, granular, liquid and peat based. Granular is best but you need the 3rd tank on your aircart and mine only have two. Liquid is the easiest to use, just dribble it on as you are loading the peas into the aircart. Peat based has a higher rhizobia count than liquid but you need to mix it with water before you can apply it so it is a major pain in the behind to use - very time consuming.

People always ask me why, for the number of acres I seed, I have the equipment that I do. 4 combines, 4 swathers, 6 grain trucks(!) and as of last year 2 airdrills for seeding. Part of the reason is that I can't afford to buy the newer, larger equipment in one fell swoop. But the smaller older stuff I can handle. And equipment, old and new, breaks down. One larger, newer piece of equipment down means you are at a standstill. In all likelihood I still have something rolling.

Case in point, while I was struggling with my drill yesterday, my gf had no problems with hers and so she seeded while I was unplugging etc. What ever stress, grief and misery I was experiencing was offset but the fact that some seeding was still taking place!!!! Stress reduction. Compare that to my poor uncle who only has the one airdrill, needed a fuel filter for it (good luck on a Sunday!) and got no seeding done yesterday as a result.

But now it appears that my drill has its' problems sorted out.

Another difference between my father and I. Dad was always against hiring others to help out. I stand with the position that you can never have enough labour on hand. Last night, 7 pm when we filled with pea seed, I discussed with cousin Brad how to operate the drill and tractor and turned him loose. I gained two hours with my son while seeding continued to roll along. Just smart management.............I learned long ago that I don't have to do everything myself. I remember some CEO being interviewed and he said that he was successful not because of that he did but because of the people he hired under him - makes sense.

Ditto this morning, I have to take my son to school, then at 10 am have to see the dentist so I probably won't hit the field until noon. Dad won't use my airdrills so if cousin Brad wasn't available it would be motionless, instead Brad will be seeding this morning along with my gf. Acres getting done and my presence not required. I'm learning..............

Yes it costs $ for labour (and of course I even pay my gf - what were you thinking??!!) but of what cost to me is getting the crop in the ground earlier? Crop insurance clearly shows a correlation between seeding date and outcome (yield/quality), the earlier the better so this for me is again just smart business.......I'll reap much more back by getting the job done sooner rather than later.

Similar situation right now to last spring though, makes me nervous. No rain in the forecast for the next week (good for getting seeding done) but major dust being kicked up by the neighbours who still cultivate and harrow. While I have awesome moisture myself right now it is going to get dry and while it is normally +15 it was +27 yesterday and going to be similar for the rest of the week. I decided to seed a bit deeper, peas especially being a larger seed require a lot of moisture to imbibe before they will germinate. But I can only do my part and hope that Mother Nature will do hers.

Overall, so really happy to have started seeding, the 1st of May is early for us. And ended the day with more accomplished than when I started and today is going to be even better - right!

As for the difference between 325 rwhp to 500 rwhp? Heck yah, that'll be scary!...for the first while. Then I'll want 550, then 600, then 625....... :D
And now that I watched the bike video, those guys are nuts. Especially the first part where he's wheeling in the rain!!!

I take her out almost everytime I come back home from work. I think that is why I got away with doing so much to the Camaro :happy:
But she likes the Corvette too much like it is. for now... :angelic:

All the snow is almost gone now, except for the bigger piles but the wife tells me there is mud everywhere and the streets are covered in sand and salt again. It will take a few days of rain to clean thigs up.
 
a least you guy have a vette to drive. I'm riding my bicycle to work, to save money for a vette in the future.
 
Finished the peas yesterday. Even with the heat and wind the moisture is excellent. Still hot and returning to windy tomorrow - enough and it can stop any time. First time seeding peas on large scale in 5 or 6 years. I did 10 ac of peas 2 years ago just to try it out. Had some plugging problems with the one drill but hopefully there will not be too many blank spots!

Alternator failed on the 895 yesterday, well Monday night actually. Dealer doesn't sell them anymore, NAPA has a different one that will still mate up, 160 amp instead of 90 which is fine but $500! Still need to get the tractor rolling so probably pick it up this morning. Switching to wheat today, 2 down, 10 fields to go now.

We should be doing better but as long as things don't get worse might finish in 10 days. In time for Ponoka if I'm not exhausted by then. But a goal to aim for.

So started the wheat yesterday, maybe 170 ac of 270 done in this field. Overall it went well. It takes a while to switch over fro one crop to the next. Had the alternator fail on one tractor Monday night, of course no one had one locally. One possibility but Dad didn't want to try it as it might have required adding some wires. I sort of thought that was the reason for having an electrical engineer on the team! He ordered one that was a direct replacement but it wouldn't arrive until this morning and would be $500.

Got pissed at the thought of having the tractor and drill sitting for a day so spent some time on the phone. Found one in Fairview finally, an upgraded one, 130 amp instead of 90 amp, smaller in size too and only $400! So mom went and picked it up, Brad installed it while my gf and I prepped the drills and bingo off we went with both drills. Nice to look in the field and to see another rig running - good for moral!

So goal today, as we should be able to get going sooner than the 2 pm of yesterday, finish this field and do mom's by the lake. That will be a nice place to be emotionally.

Sad watching the news about Ft. MacMurray. Amazing no deaths yet. Shades of Slave Lake a few years ago but magnitudes worse.............

Going to cool off to 20 finally for the next few days but gusting to 50 km again today. How do you fight a fire in winds like that I wonder?

Thought I've seen a member from Ft. Mac posting so I hope he's alright................
 
I think Garry is correct, we do have a member or members on here from Fort McMurray. I think at least one of them had a new C7.

Really hope that everyone from there is safe and sound.

Glad to hear your rolling Garry and with the chance of being done in time for Ponoka! Woo!

As for riding your bike Jeff, no shame in that! I've been doing that for 6 years now....partly to save some money on fuel, partly because I'm fat. We're all looking forward to hearing about when you pick up your first Vette! Woo!
 
Just to clarify Riley you were in your Corvette not on your bicycle when the back end got loose??:Biggrin:
