So.... I am frustrated (and impatient).
I placed my order with my dealer March 7.
So far, all I know is that GM has accepted the order (status 1100).
This apparently was done in June. I have a copy of the order with an order number.

I sold my C6 in May.... I had a "live" customer, with cash.

So now we are without a car to enjoy (race)... we do have our '67.

I am impatient.
My dealer can't give me any update on my order.

I have found a used one in the US.
It is EXACTLY what I ordered... except it is a 3LT, versus the 2LT which I ordered. It has just over 1200 miles on it.
I think I can get it for a good price... and when I add the exchange and shipping,
that would put the price about what I'm going to pay for my "new" Canadian one.... if/when it ever arrives.

Of course, taxes are the same if I get a new one here, or a used one from the US.

So... I can wait for the new 2015 (someday),
or I can try to cancel my order, and get this used one....
which I'll probably have in my hands 3 weeks after I finalize the deal.
And we can then be driving it... and maybe even get to race in one or two
races before the year ends. (So far we have missed 6 races).

(This is of course, dependent on being able to cancel my order, and get my deposit back).

I would really like to hear people's opinions/recommendations.

Thanks all

1. you have been an impatient guy since day one (not a bad thing just stating the obvious)

2. you are OK with the used car and do not mind the transport and the paperwork

so in this case I see no real downside to you and lots of upside

since you found the exact one you would like to own go for it

just go ahead the canuck deliveries can be slow and no guarantee on a delivery date for you so do not waste the rest of the year in BC without a nice car,

if your order was for a 2014 and I could change it to green I would take it off yor hands,

get the USA model and have fun ( I like the USA speedo better)

dealer could care less if you walk
import a C7...NO GM Canada warranty until 12000km

This order process seems to be very common in Canada since myself, and two others that are also waiting with the same dealership here in Ontario, are going through same. The ONLY grace is that this dealership pushes through more vets than any other in Canada so I have to believe things will work out. The funny part is that the first guy I SHOULD HAVE gone with is already at 2000 on a car ordered after I would have ordered mine... and he has confirmed a Z06 on top of that. That could have been the fall delivery I wanted so bad... oh well.

The unfortunate part is your dealer doesnt have to show any priority whatsoever even though you are at 1100.

My fear is that the process is used to prioritize buyers when the pricing comes out. So here we have been sitting and then pricing comes out and a few jump in with quick completely cash sales and get priority...and on and on.

@Ntmd8r

Status 1100 means that your order was send to GM. GM has not "accepted" (Status 2000) the order as yet so its not even on their radar to schedule for production. Our first 2015 C7 is currently at status 3400 with a build week assigned for next week. We hope to deliver it by end of this month or early next month.

From the dealers perspective you are welcome to go and get this used vehicle as long as you understand that you may then end up with two C7's. The 2014 used C7 from the US and a 2015 C7 from your dealer. For factory orders you may not be able to get your refund but its worth a shot.

On the bright side unless your factory order is really oddly structured you may be able to "sell" your factory order to another person who wants the same specs and agrees to take your spot in the line. This person would then refund your deposit to you. Also if you are still on Status 1100 this means that you are also allowed to make any order changes you like so technically the new person can maintain your spot in line and have it restructured to meet their exact specs. The rest of the terms would be the same as agreed by you.

FYI we have a 2014 3LT Coupe in stock. If you need additional info on it please PM me.

Best of luck!

I understand there are some interior changes on the 15's that make them more desirable (at least to me) as a big guy I need more room than the 14's cockpit gives me so I passed and will wait and see.

@vt65

Its very unlikely for them to make any major desirable changes for the 2015 C7 so soon but you never know.

What kind of changes are you expecting? In a couple of weeks we will get our first 2015 so i can report back here if there are any "desirable" changes in the interior.

BTW the 2015 will have the 4G LTE OnStar system. Were you referring to this as the desirable interior change because for some people it is indeed very desirable.

Best regards,

Owais has made me a little leery .... I may not be able to cancel my order.
I will see my dealer today.

If I can cancel the order... everyone I have asked/spoken with, have ALL said to
take the used one.

And I am certainly planning on doing this... as long as I can cancel the order,
and negotiate a good price on the used one (which I expect to be able to do).

Hi Ntmd8r,

I didnt mean to scare you from your purchase. I was merely trying to answer your question from the dealers perspective. Also my info is limited to the legal obligations on a purchase made in Ontario so it may not apply to your purchase in BC.

Going back to your original question, did you initially place an order for a 2014 or 2015 C7? And when they placed an order for you in June did you sign any additional documents and agree to placing an order for a 2015 vehicle? Did you tell them that you would take a Fall/Winter delivery if its possible?

The dealer would have set your orders priority based on how soon you wanted it. Also if it has moved along to status 2000 then you still have the option of selling your factory order to someone else to get your deposit back. You may also want to speak to your sales rep who may be able to help you with selling your factory order to another customer on your behalf. Usually offering a cash reward to your sales rep would get him interested. ;-)

Please let us know how it goes.

Goodluck!

Thanks Owais.
I did speak with my dealer this morning, and they did tell me that, at this time.
I can cancel my order and get a refund.
However, if the order was in production, then we could NOT cancel.

So... now I'm negotiating with this fellow re the used one.
I have found out what shipping/brokerage will be.... hmmmmm.... somewhat more expensive than my last transaction.

Anyone know of a GOOD RELIABLE broker/transporter I could contact to get a
comparison price ?

I paid a premium price for mine through DAS Global because I needed it up here before the snows fell... I got it just in time as it snowed the day after it arrived and its been snowing ever since.

DAS Global was my main broker and did it all for me because my car wasn't a running vehicle. [it was a huge risk but it ended up as a nicely stored Barn Find and low mileage C2 survivor]

Ojamali, I understand it has to do with airbag positioning which allows more room for the driver, hope it's true ...

It has to do with a change in the positioning of the sensor for the driver seat mounted air bag. Currently that sensor restricts movement of the driver's seat to ensure that the wiring, etc for the air bag is not restricted. They have repositioned things a bit, and are supposed to have a bit more space for big folks.... I can't wait to see if so, and know a couple of guys that will be very happy.

As to new vs used, I have found that the pricing on used Z51's from the US is still very strong, and not any kind of deal at this point from dealers/brokers. If you can find one privately that offers some value, enough to counter the difference in resale, loss of warranty, etc. and you can get it in time to thrash it a bit this year, then that would be terrific for you.

Good luck!

As far as I know the warranty is North America-wide. Its only "delayed" outside US till 12000 KM or 7500 Miles.

Only other benefit you would lose I think is the discounted Ron Fellows Corvette training as its only for the first owner on the original Bill of Sale from the dealer.

Private sales usually dont have a lot of consumer protection so thats my only real concern so I would have the vehicle inspected first and ensure there are no liens attached to it or no title issues before proceeding. You might also want to run CarProof report to ensure there is no accident, flood damage etc. and verify that the vehicle is not a "Lemon".

@ToVetteFan: Thanks for sharing the info on the seating capacity in the 2015. Can you please also share your sources with us? Thanks!

Good Luck!

Careful on the warranty conversation. 12,000 kms is 3 years use for a lot of Corvette people...! ;-)

As I said, I hope that it is effective in increasing space. I have been involved with Corvettes for many years and developed a number of relationships in BG and with some knowledgeable people. This info was mentioned during a presentation at the Anninversary get-together in BG a little while ago, although I haven't heard how big a difference it really is... Let us hope!

And, for what it's worth, Spring Valley is an awesome experience, and anyone who can take advantage, should, with or without the discount. I mean really, like anyone needs an excuse to go to Vegas, but if it costs 2K to do the driver training, that is likely cheaper than the cost of staying on the Strip!

ToVetteFan:
I think you meant Spring Mountain (not Valley).
I was there in 2006.... awesome track, facility, and people.... well worth the experience.

In any case.... for all of you who were wondering...... TADA.....

I have cancelled my order with my dealer and they are going to refund my deposit, and
I have bought the "used" C7 for sale on eBay (by a small dealer).

It is EXACTLY what I want, plus it is 3LT (instead of 2LT) plus red calipers,
and has only 1400 miles on it.
I am making arrangements for payment, and shipping/brokering, etc. this week.

Whooooboy, I might even have it for the last autocross of the year (Sept 13),
but I am not banking on this. It will just be nice to have one, finally.
