Thanks guys. It's all good now. Even though the owner never said anything he said he would have charged a lot more for the color change as the paint alone was $1500 just for the body. I mean he really could have taken advantage of that situation if he wanted to and charge me through the roof.

Anyway here's a little teaser of the radiator cover I made. They painted all the parts yesterday with the new color. This cover hasn't been cleared yet either so the color will be a little different as he's making this a one off color for me by tinting the clear very slightly. The car was already half sanded yesterday and they're hoping to paint it today.

Hey guys!

Finally got the car back on Friday! What a long, stressful, and expensive process.

This will just be a quick post of what I've done so far as I'll probably be posting quite frequently as things start going back together.

So far I have put on the rear spoiler, custom radiator cover, custom Morimoto lights, light control boxes, side marker lights, and custom license plate light. Should hopefully get the new wheels on tomorrow and maybe the front grills and front markers.

Wow. Cody. Getting really close to an amazing fruition. Car looks really great. Be proud man. You deserve it.

Thanks guys!

Got the wheels on my car today along with the front marker lights and I test fit one grill. I had to spray some undercoating under the rear quarters and I also had to clean quite a bit of over spray off my trailing arm, brake lines, and body mount. Unfortunately my frame was too badly over sprayed and I had to repaint it. That really annoys me because I specifically told them to be very careful and mask everything. They even got over spray on my old wheels and I had to spend a couple hours cleaning it off so that I can sell them.

Hi guys!

Making some more progress on the car. Unfortunately it seems like every step I take forward I get pushed two steps back. I was putting on the driver's side wheel and of course had to clean over spray off the trailing arm and the frame needed to be painted. I then looked under my car and they had over sprayed the freshly painted frame in the rear, my brand new powder coated gas tank, and all of my suspension, half shafts, and diff, all of which were immaculate. Took me about 12 hours to clean everything and respray the entire rear frame.... A little later I looked under the front and they over sprayed the front suspension as well. Fortunately the front, while being powder coated, hadn't been cleaned in a while so it might not be so bad. I will leave that for a winter project. I also noticed they over sprayed my engine bay and particularly the area by the hood latches that I had just painted before it went to the body shop which I will have to masked off and resprayed. Lastly, before the car went to the body shop I removed almost all of the interior except the driver's side lower dash panel because it takes a bit of work to remove it. I thought I had given the body shop plenty of room with it but I guess not and they pulled on the dash to get more room and punctured the vinyl down the left side. I told the owner about this to which he had no response. No apology, no reparation, nothing. I got an estimate from my upholstery guy because I had it custom done about two years ago and it's going to be $600 and can't be done till late September or October which screws up me getting the car touched up or the exhaust done unless I temporarily install the steering wheel which I may have to do.

Right now I regret ever having someone else paint my car. I'm sure I'll feel different once it's done. Full disclosure I paid almost $17k for this paint job, granted it is a Porsche color and there was a repaint of the body but still. I expected a lot better for this amount of money.

Sorry for the long rant. Now onto the fun stuff! I installed my lower valance and front spoiler. I also installed the side skirts, the roof trim, and windshield trim. For all of the body panels I placed foam on the backsides of the panels. Just a 1/16" x 3/4" strip of foam (sometimes a thicker foam in certain places) just to protect the paint should I ever remove the piece and to stop and vibrations which could cause cracks or squeaks. I have also been using stainless steel fasteners everywhere and I heat them to produce a slightly blue/dark purple color. I have found this goes with the paint really well and I love the look.

I installed the rear window and rear window trim. Spent about 5 hours installing the window making sure I got the bead of urethane around the rear window perfect.

Finally I installed the gas lid and door handles. I wanted to do something unique with the door handles so I took them apart and had them powder coated gloss black to match the windshield trim. I absolutely love how it came out.

For the interior I vacuumed and shampooed the rear storage area and installed my new speaker box which fit perfectly. I also ran the new wires for the amp and connected the amp. I also installed a Dakota digital SGI-100BT and wired it up to adjust my tach. As many of you know the new tach boards are rarely accurate so I bought this device to calibrate it through an app on my phone. You can also run and calibrate a speedo through this if you decide to switch to a digital speedo gauge.

Man Cody.... Gotta give credit to your patience. It looks great but all the overspray and other grief is sure a pain for you. But, the old saying for services rendered is, if you're satisfied, tell two people... If you're not satisfied, tell 20,000 people. Ok... that may not be the exact saying but in this world of social media, it's easy to let people know the problems you had with this particular shop. Really sounds like they don't give a s**t about all the mistakes and sloppy work they did. JMO

Thank you for your updates Cody. Wow
Missing ya being on the road with us - but in good time.

I too am noticing that apologies are missing from bad service.
My most recent was definitely much less serious to remedy than yours when getting a recall service back from a local dealership ...
with my Engine Light On. Nobody noticed except the fella who was about to drive home. Recall involved my factory installed
performance air intake along with a software update of sort. 35 extra minutes to remedy without an apology.
I'm in the habit of walking around my vehicle before I leave a dealership now
in case there are dents/scratches. It really has developed into a loss of trust.

Wow Cody. That sure is a sinister thing of beauty. I very much like all the custom mods you have done to the body, very tasteful but unique. Sorry to hear of all the F ups the body shop did. I have found over the past 25 years restoring cars, if you want it done right and to your expectations, learn how to do it and do it yourself. On my last Monte Carle full frame off car restoration, the body was brought in for polystripping. I recieved it back and the roof was so bloody warped, it took 2 of us 30 hours to fix it heat quenching, hammering and cooling. As usual, your workmanship is spectacular, bravo. I want to come see it!

Love love LOVE how the car is turning out. Appreciate all the detailed creation history. I'm assuming the paint shop will at least reimburse the $600 upholstery charge, given all the overspray problems you've fixed and have yet to fix. The "angles/lines" on the car are amazing, as is the colour! Can't wait to see photos of it "in the wild" once it's 100% completed. A real keeper and thing of beauty, that is already looking to be well worth the time, effort and $$$$!!

Hi guys,

Thank you for all your positive words.

Some good news. Even though I haven't been getting any apologies the owner seems to be working with me to make sure my car is perfect. He's going to pay for the upholstery issue and is doing some extra stuff for me. Also where I joined the front bumper to the body, I really shouldn't have been lazy by using epoxy. I should have just fiberglassed it because the seam is showing through. He's working with me on that and he's going to fix it and respray the front end for $500 but that'll barely cover materials so for me it makes up for all the work I had to do. He's also going to fix the over spray in engine bay and underneath. So I'm definitely feeling a lot better about the paint and I'm happy now I had it done.

On to the fun stuff. I'm about 95% done assembling the car. All the interior is in except for the lower dash pads, upper center console, and door panels. I also have to put the front head lights in but that's about it.

When I assembled the car I decided to go with Metro weatherstripping from rock auto. In the past I have purchased import and USA weatherstripping from Corvette places and the quality sucked. I have to say this metro weatherstripping is some of the nicest weatherstripping I've ever seen. It's very solid stuff and they've fixed almost all of the issues I've had with other weatherstripping such as a thick vertical rear window seal which seals insanely well and is so thick it should cut down on a lot of noise. Not sponsored by them I just really liked the product and it's cheaper than the weatherstripping from the corvette stores.

Now that the car was assembled I trailered it over to my buddies place on Monday and he fabricated a 2.5" stainless cut and weld exhaust system. We did an x pipe under the diff as I thought it was the most logical place for one. We also swapped to flow through Magnaflow mufflers on his recommendation. So excited to hear how it sounds!

On Friday I trailed the car to the body shop to finish up everything on their end so that come spring I can have it trailer for a full 3M wrap. Should be in the body shop for about a week and then I'll be trailering it home for the winter.

Car looks awesome. Been there done that with special tri-colour Crimson Pearl paint on my 1928 Ford closed cab pick up street rod. Luckily for me had a friend who owns a body shop and he is a PPG authorized mix shop. So after I had spent 5,000 hours building, he painted my truck and all its pieces separately, therefore I had none of your problems. As the others here have said about the paint shop's lack of responsibilty it is terrible, but you still have a beautiful and very exclusive car.
By the way, I hope you put "anti seize" on your stainless bolts. If not, I suggest you remove them and add anti seize, otherwise you may have problems down the road if you have to remove them. They will lock so bad the bolt will break before you can remove the nut. By the way your idea of bluing them is totally unique. Well done, it is the detailing that counts!
