And it begins....Body off

So I did get a little more done on the weekend. Scraped the rest of the old undercoating off (out of the wheel wells). Time consuming and annoying but all in all not to hard. Heat gun and a scraper and then wire brush:

Fixed the glass on the #4 body mount.

It went a bit better, although I didn't prep any different? Anyway, Made a wood block covered in aluminum foil to support the glass over the hole:

I was hoping to get to spraying on the truck bed liner but lost ambition. I still need to sand out the glass on the floorboards and clean everything again. I am probably going to try to get the body mounts fixed and the seat belt reinforcements made before I spray. I did get a Pro Form - Buck Shot 2 part truck liner spray kit already so just a matter of time!

Greet to see more progress on the car! Fantastic work so far!!! If you have a date set for setting the rivers and need an extra hand, let me know and I’ll see if I can make it out.

Had some truck box liner in a spray can left from doing the wiper gutter. Thought I would try it out on a couple spots of the underside to see how it covered. I felt it was pretty good so I gave it a bit more sanding and went ahead with cleaning for the real thing:

I also made new #4 body mounts. I drew up the profile at work and sweet talked the plasma table operator to cut them out for me. Had to make my own punch (all of my "brake" tooling is home made to begin with) but it worked out very well:

Apparently I have lots to add today! Also decided to get the underbody coated. Cleaned, prep'd, masked. Also sanded the firewall real well for looks and decided to spray another layer on the wiper trough while I was there. Here is the cleaned masked car:

Can't remeber if I said this earlier but I am using a Pro-Form - Buck Shot truck bed liner kit. I got a good deal through Cloverdale on our work account (reg $170 ish). Comes with three separate cans and a can of activator. I like this because you don't have to mix up all of it just to waste some. Good thing to because I ended up using only 2 cans. Also comes with the applicator gun which is a bonus. Set the reg to about 65 psi, mix and shake the can, and start spraying (you do require a respirator):

The result were very pleasing. The texture was exactly as I had hoped...just slight raised bumps. Here is how far I got with can1:

Mixed up can to and finished up over the firewall:

Once again I am very pleased with the final result!

Please note: masking must be removed while the material is still wet!

That turned out fantastic Taylor. Great job on the body mounts too. That box liner is good stuff and may help quiet down the road noise too maybe.
Enjoying watching this build tremendously. 👍

Nice job in fabricating the mounts , time consuming but that is what it takes to redo stuff . Your patching with the fiberglass and then applying all the black stuff looks great. It's gonna be a nice solid car after it's done.

With a busy season and much visiting the car took a back burner to family...however, I did get a little done. I was able to sneak a bunch of parts through the paint line at work. Basically grabbed whatever I saw for parts once I found out I could. They got a blast, prime, and 2 part Endura black. There are a few imperfections due to them not being able to be hung but I am not going to argue. Most of the parts are not visible unless you are really looking for them anyway.

So i found a bit of time to rivet some parts to the underside. I decided to just use pop rivets (large head, full Aluminum) with a #8 flat washer on the back side to give some bearing surface against the fiberglass. I figure I can grind down the tail inside the car if needed, but I doubt I will need to.

As you can see I silicone'd around and under the parts in the rear wheel well. I figure it should help some.

More to follow.

I next turned back to fabrication and made some captured nuts for the #4 body mounts. I didn't even realize these existed since there were none on the car at disassembly. Flipping through the parts catalogs and noticed them so I figured I better put some on the car.

Only after I installed them and the #4 body mounts did I realize I should have made them differently, the nut will bear against the fiberglass (supported on outside by body mount). I am not sure if it is worth cutting off the #4 mounts to fix or not. Of course they are silicone'd very well too so it is not a simple drill out the rivets and take them off. Anyway, here's how they look. Also put in some bars for the T-top strap hooks in the rear compartment. Made them out of aluminum.
