My nephew is a salesman at a local Ford dealer. They do this all the time, and refer to it as a pass through. Basically if you can find a person to buy your car, they can do it through the dealership saving you the taxes on your next purchased vehicle. The buyer, no matter if it through the dealer or Service Canada has to pay the taxes on it. The Dealership basically does it as a courtesy allowing you to get what the car is worth retail and not just a trade in value. Dealership does the paperwork, but doesn't get much more than that.
