On my last trip to the track this season I started having some transmission issues and also broke a valve spring. Since I started....I figured I might as well go for it. So much going on my head is spinning. The disassembly in these pictures took place in 1 day, with my tuner/mechanic and myself working at a great pace. The list of parts is a mile long... I am scared to add it up.

I will update this thread as we work. In all it will be a project of a few months I'm thinking. :canada:

ouch !!! :swear: at least it wasn't at the start of the season. is that bubble wrap ? great idea !

It is bubble wrap !! Provides some fun while working. You lean on the car and they pop.

Yes, I feel I got lucky. I dont want my car down for a month during summer !!

Good morning Canuk,

Sorry to hear about the bad luck mechanical wise but like you have said, the timing could be much worse in terms of when to be dealing with this!

It will be frightening to see what your car willbe capable off after this since it appears that we tend to build for faster and not staying the same.

Looking forward to the new list of mods as they occur.

Cheers,

Garry

Just updating...

Not much to report so far. Heads are out being done, waiting for the short block, and I just got my transmission back today. We will reinstall the rear and trans this week so the car will be mobile. Then we wait on the engine.
The other day I installed the BAP, just to say there is progress..:D

I'm drooling at your list buddy! Were going to have to hook up at Napierville sometime!

Did you lose the 3/4 clutch pack? ie. What happened to your tranny and what did you do about it? I've redone mine twice now.

I agonized for weeks researching and trying to decide what to do. I thought some hard parts broke but upon opening the tranny we found everything was fine exept the 4,5,6 clutch pack had burnt and welded together. Seems to be a weak link from the research I did.
After reading everything I could find and talking to many people, (Chuck at COW,John at Century, Rob at Champion, Rossler, etc etc), I did what I usually end up doing. Making my own decision which I will live with, right or wrong.
What I found is that even those with built 6L80's seem to have problems. I believe this is for 2 reasons. First is that although they add more clutches and steels, they are much thinner and therefore have there own issues. Secondly, there seems to be a lot of confusion over tuning of the builds. How much pressure for all these changed clearances, etc. I decided that rather than spend 4000+ and having more issues, I would justt rebuild it for less than half, and if I have to do the clutches every year, so be it. Stock it lasted 10000 miles and many mid 10 second runs with 600rwhp. Actually the day it blew I was trying different things iin the tune and probably caused the blowup myself.
:swear:

Anyways, all that said, I worked with a local guy who has been building racing transmissions for 35 years. Although he hasnt done much with 6L80's he has done tons of 4L's and i let him go at it. Rebuilt with stock parts, but adding an extra clutch and steel to the 4,5,6 pack. I also upgraded the front pump to the new model and added a wide mouth filter. I also welded the drums myself as that is apparently a weak link and it cost me nothing.
This will go with a Circle D triple disc converter and hopefully it lasts the season. I am convinced its all in the tune !!!

Just for information. If my car was stock and I had an issue, I would just buy a remanufactured unit for GM and enjoy a 3 year warranty. They were willing to sell me one for 2600.

Hey Arun,

Tell me what you think of this.

226/246 .610/.637 119 +3

Keep in mind. I have a phobia about trying to keep my car kinda stock looking and sounding. I am hoping this will gve me just a little lope and some good power. With the eforce I am not concerned about more low end. Thats for sure.

Thoughts ??

What size dish are you going with on the new motor and what head and chamber size?

What headers as well?

My same WCCH 245 heads. 65cc. ARH 1 7/8 headers. Pistons are -15cc so compression ratio should be around 9.9.
