I had mentioned to Spence (without an R) last week about potential locations for a mid Sept cruise pending interest. I had come up with a few ideas and would like to share them with you guys.

As you all know and many have seen the Upper Kananaskis Lake is very pretty. The fall colours are in full glory in Sept and it's only an hour and a half from Calgary. There are 2 other lots there as well but this is the only one with a water view. My concern there though is the hiker traffic that is out there on weekends. The parking lot is a major trailhead for a dozen hiking / backpacking trails so chances are good it could be fairly busy. But,being after Labor Day weekend,it could be hit or miss too. As well,if any of the Red Deer and points north guys came down to see us,the Stoney Nakoda resort is quite reasonable after Sept long. As well, they have a massive parking lot and a really good weekend All you can eat buffet and indoor pool. As well,a continuation from the lake on southwards over the Highwood Pass brings us to a pull off like the Abraham Lake one. It's called the Lost Lemon Mine pull out and has a great storyboard telling the history. From there we can carry on to the town of Longview and see Hollywood history from recent movies filmed around there. ( Unforgiven,Open Range, lonesome Dove, Brokeback Mtn )

Another place I thought would be cool and might have some appeal is the Tyrrell museum of palentology (Sp) in Drumheller. I was last there in the late 80s and it was pretty impressive. I've meant to drive out there a few times before I signed up here on CCF but always ended up going west as I kinda like it ( you think ).

Anyway, not sure how much interest this will attract but if there is any,I'd like to hear of other destinations you guys might have in mind. Or better yet, have been to and had a good time. I'll drive anywhere in this province.

Humbly yours, Mikey.

Love to see the Bleriot Ferry just outside of Drumheller full of corvettes !!

Now that would be a photo !!!
Someone would have to volunteer to cross before the load of corvettes go over for the photo op ... ya think we could do it ... it would be awesome for sure

Only thing with Ferries is a lower front chin spoiler on a vette. Some slopes will stop some Vettes.... eg .... ZR1

I have done that ferry once.... with my Escalade. LOL

Both sound like nice cruises...... see what everyone posts on which they would like to do.

Sounds like a great idea Mike! I will try and get out the ferry maybe tomorrow and see how the vette handles the approach and departure from the ferry. Talk with the operators and see if they have any options for low vehicles. Jo and I are in. Any chance to drive with a group we are in. Can you show us a route or have any preliminary options in mind?

Good morning Rocky. I'll have to get some help from Spence in regards to outlining a route on a map. My computer skills are next to nothing and I have no idea how to operate any programs other than on/off.

We were there with a few friends last fall with our Camaro's. You saw my buddies Camaro in Rocky, the Terminator one, and he is quite low with his GFX spoiler and he made it on and off without scraping. Not by a lot but by going on an angle it cleared. I am certain he has less clearance than a stock Stingray but I am not sure about a Z06 or a ZR1.

There is also a nice view point area that could hold a decent number of cars for some nice pics overlooking the valley.

Upper Kananaskis is a great choice. Drumheller is a unique area as well with many different spots to stop at and take pics. The ferry is one of many and the country side is picturesque.
It was a great turnout last time to Lake Louis and I'm sure there would be a good response from the Edm area.

Myself I like the Lake cruise to be honest. There's more to see along 40 south of the lakes. Shortly after leaving the casino southound you have the Tim Hortons children's ranch,Barrier Lake ( 3 different lots ) The delta Kananaskis Lodge,

The Centex gas station to clean windshields/fuel/refreshments is just before the upper lakes road turnoff. From there, the upper lake. After that back to 40 southbound to the Highwood Pass lot. ( highest group of Corvettes in Canada ) then onwards to Longview for Hollywood history and some of the best beef jerky I've ever had. Turn around,do it again and gather back at the Casino for a group photo and some mingling. ( drone friendly lot there Brian )

I have a friend of a friend who is one of the helicopter tour pilots. Perhaps with some friendly persuasion,we could get the cars onto the little Tarmac area with the helicopters.

And for those concerned about bugs, there would be a lot less through the mountains than through a desert type environment I would think.
