Peace River N Da House - The arrival of Garry's VY 06 Z06

Good morning Manny,

I've been thinking about that! I do hope that I will be able to control WOT in 1st and 2nd gear to start with. Especially when I am autocrossing but then again as last year it is a 1st gear affair, I'd rather go slower than shift at this point.

I need to find $ to get the clutch done now. I sure wish my house was sold. I would assume that with the engine in pieces I have some time? I know it is an unusual arrangement, usually the tranny and engine are attached but in this car the engine and tranny are separated by a driveshaft of some sort - do I understand this correctly?

Is the clutch more accessable right now?

Would the 2 disc one do or do I really need the 3 plate job?

I'll be honest that it had me up during the night actually thinking that I made the wrong call! But I did appreciate your honesty with the warning that the stock clutch will fail in the nearer future depending on how I behave. Forewarned is forearmed as they say.

Cheers,

Garry

We can do a ZR1 clutch that will hold that power level .
ZR1 clutch and Flywheel is $1500 and includes new pilot bearing as well as a remote bleeder and ARP bolts .

I do think that for the long term cost savings and over all longevity of the build , we do this now rather than later .

Garry , the good news is that with the engine out the charge for installing a clutch goes from $950 , down to $190 because it is all apart .

This way its done :D

750 rwhp..............gee we'd better get more than that! Just Enzo territory, sheesh, how could one ever just be satisfied with slumming it like that!

So we're going with the ZR1 clutch. Piece of mind is worth something after all.

But I never knew that I'd have to bleed this thing every three to four weeks but as it is done inside the engine compartment I guess it shouldn't be too bad and Manny is going to give me instructions on what to look for and how to do it. God knows I don't lift the hood on the car enough as it is to see what is going on there, looking for leaks, checking oil levels, now checking methanol levels (!!!!!!!) so this will just become part and parcel of SOP I guess.

But yes, I was a bit sleepless last night and there is a huge sense of relief and also that it will be a less expensive solution than the others proposed...........

Cheers,

Garry

And I also think that it is a much better idea to be attending to this while it is in the state is disassembly that it is in. As Manny pointed out significant savings on labour and now I don't have to worry about babying the car on the way home!

Plus maybe I'll stop and lay a few blackies in fromt of Davenport Auto if I go through Calgary to show them what a properly prepped car should be capable of.............!

Cheers,

Garry

Good morning Manny,

I've followed the posting on:

Garry's 2006 Z06 From Alberta Just Arrived - Corvette Forum

about the work that you're doing and some of the folks on this site were wondering why I didn't go local.

I'm not about to sign up to get another forum but I thought that as the owner of the car my point of view might offer some clarity on this thread if you wanted to share it with them.

So here is the story.

When I first started to consider modifiying the car it came down to a question of bang for my buck. Now for some personal information, I'm not a company CEO, I don't own an oilfield service company or a trucking company, I'm not a doctor, lawyer or accountant. I'm just a semi-retired grain farmer former research agronomist who wanted to first fulfill a promise that I made to myself if I survived 5 years after my cancer treatment ended which was to buy my dream car (Velocity Yellow C6 Z06). Having done that and being bitten by the thrill of speed now it became a question of going faster.

I dealt first with Manny and Dasilva Motorsports when it came time to venture down the road with the first of the changes, the "Mild to Wild" exhaust control and the Snake Charmer air intake.

But then came the desire for more power yet and so I talked with Manny about what he would recommend for a major boost.

Now as I mentioned previously, while it might appear otherwise, money is tight and cost is a factor. After I talekd with Manny I talked with some folks in Edmonton and also Davenport in Calgary and I ended up either getting a lesser package (and rwhp outcome) for the same price or I would end up paying considerably more for the same upgrades.

And this is AFTER taking into account moving the car from Northern Alberta to Ontario.

And while I plan at the moment to fly to Ontario to drive the car home in the early spring I'm looking forward to the trip to see parts of Canada and the US I have not seen in a long time and to just have a nice road trip in the process.

I don't fault companies like Davenport etc. for the prices they gave me. This is a "what the market will bear" situation and Alberta's economy, IF you are in the right industry, is smoking hot right now. So what are they to do? Have one price for the oilfield guys making the 6 digit incomes and other for the rest of us? it doesn't work that way sadly.

I remember going to try to buy a vehicle in Grande Prairie in 2007 and trying to negotiate with the salesman and he just looked at me and said "why should I go below sticker price when some rig worker will be coming through that door at any moment and will pay me asking price in cash?"

Sort of a hard reality to live in.

Now on the other hand, the economy in Ontario, at the moment, is not that rocking along. Thus for the prudent and shrewd if you shop around and do your homework you can find that for the same product there are significant differences in the price you will have to pay.

If I could get the same outcome from Dasilva for much less than from Davenport well that is money left in my pocket and that is a much better outcome for me.

I'm sure that the Edmonton and Calgary guys do very fine work, having seen their cars at "Race the Base" and autocrossed against a Davenport modded ZR1 (who had the best time that day by the way!) but for me it it was just an economic consideration.

And if you ever heard the full story of my experience in moving the car to Edmonton in a blizzard for rail transport to Dasilvia, it is experiences like this that give life a bit of flavour and make it just a little more colorful and fun.

I hope that this will hlep you understand that my choice of Dasilva was as informed a decision as a car owner as I could make for furthering the experience of owning what has to be the best car to drive, a C6 Z06!

Cheers,

Garry

Hi Garry, you are making the correct decision time after time, what you end up with will be nothing short of FANTASTIC! It should put a smile on your face that is going to last forever.

From someone who can just barely remember which way the hood opens (well maybe a bit more informed than that) I am so impressed with the depth of knowledge and skills that Manny and his staff have.

Those photos are nothing more than automotive jewelry.

OK, gushing over :)

The new LPE HIPO ZR1 Clutch and Flywheel good to 960 foot pounds of TQ , which will let Garry firmly plant all that new found power .

I can't help but to wonder if customers get this sort of service anywhere they would go and somehow I have my doubts. It pays to be choosy............

I doubt it very much. Most places won't even return your phone call regarding part prices. Customer service unfortunately is getting harder and harder to find, but Manny has it in spades.

That flywheel and clutch definitely is some automotive jewelry! BEAUTIFUL! It's sad so many of these nice components are inside a housing!

Yes, one thing about Dasilva is that when a question is asked it is asnwered promptly. No waiting, no guessing and if Manny doesn't know the call is returned VERY shortly. Again, it just makes you feel so valued as a customer, that the experience is as important for them as it is for you. Now who would you rather be dealing with?

The parts are really nice! And oh so sage that Manny take pictures for the future! I wonder if he'll load them all onto a CD of the experience for me?? Could add to re-sale value down the road if I ever had a fit of stupidity!

Cheers,

Garry

Good evening Manny,

This is true! I wonder if I can remember everything that should be added now.......

Cheers,

Garry

If the big three would just hire Manny to go around to dealers and do seminars, they would be on top of the heap in no time. One of the car companies biggest problems is right at the dealer level. Most people know exactly what I am talking about. I've had better treatment buying a pair of shoes than buying my last vehicle.

That's because the guy you deal with at the dealership has ZERO stake in the company. The man behind the curtain is rarewly even around--whereas you can deal with Manny--or someone near the man behind the curtain at DaSilva. Makes a big difference IMO.

too many businesses have an elitist attitude whereas a savvy business owner, like manny, understands that a little goodwill goes a long way.
