Flipping your C8

That method would work as long as that Z06 is the last GM vehicle you ever plan to purchase
Well I haven’t purchased a GM product since a 1986 Pontiac 6000 S/E. GM lost me as a customer a long time ago. So I’m not too worried.

just sold my allocation for 10 g on a new c8 to a fellow from quebec
dealer called today and money is on the way to me through a bank transfer

woo-who
Wow I haven't heard of one Ontario dealer that has done that, I didn't think that was possible on a sold order in your name

I have heard about this on another forum, it's a bit sketchy and unethical, but, GM is aware of it and doesn't seem to care in the grand scheme of things. (Dealer will say the original buyer got cold feet at the very last minute when their car arrived, etc, etc. they will forfiet their deposit technically, but, the dealer will pay it back on the other side when the deal is complete with the new buyer)

Just shows to go ya. What some dealers can do. Maybe that's why some dealers don't actually enter your info until they get you an allocation!

Where you find a buyer and in order to retain your tax paid for the purposes of buying another C8, the dealership sells the car to your buyer for a small fee.

E.g.
You sell your car for $99k.
With tax it's $111,870
Instead of receiving a cheque for only $99k you get that and a tax credit (good for a year) for $12,870
What is a small fee? Like few thousand dollars?

My point was you order a car you should pay MSRP or less IMO. Right now Dealers can not buy for stock so the only way they can get a car is if the buyer can't / won't take the car he ordered. Most dealers in Canada sell them for MSRP when you order one. What they do with it if you walk away is entirely up to them. It's their car until you take delivery. If you don't it still belongs to them. GM sells the car to the dealership, not to the end buyer.
I'm not sure this is correct. I bought my car off the showroom floor in Alberta. The dealer had 5 in the showroom all available and they told me they were ordered by them, not customer orders. I believe them as they all had similar specs and options. I paid about $16K over MSRP which I chose to do versus ordering and waiting. They were asking a lot more but I waited for a bit for the price to come down then offered quite a bit less. I've seen adds for similar cars as high as $30-$40k over MSRP. This went against everything I've ever done when buying cars. In the past I've always bought used so I can save the first year or two depreciation. It helped that I was able to sell my "09 ZR1 for a good price, much more than I was offered by the dealer. I will place an order for a new one soon so I can have the options I want (maybe a ZO6) and enjoy this one in the meantime. Call me a fool but I'm having fun.

You are correct. I had a dealership tell me 2 weeks ago that they took no customer orders at all for 2021's and used their entire allocation to stock their showroom floor and sell for whatever the market would pay. They have no intentions of taking any customer orders for 2022's as well other than possibly for either an extremely high volume customer or a good friend. Obviously GM allows them to do this and it explains why they had C8's available all season long at MSRP plus. If we called you a fool, we would be calling a lot of buyers fools.

That's an odd strategy because GM would penalize them heavily on future allocations. Wonder how the numbers play out for them?

It doesn't seem to affect them as they had numerous showroom models in the later half of 2020 as well. Guess we will see when the 2022 allocations come down the pipes and I talk to them again.

Honestly, there will be more Corvettes. When mine shows up in June and is in my driveway and someone offers me 20k+ what I paid for it, they can have it. I'll just order another and get it for next spring.
Take the $$$ and run. August, one year ago, I walked into local dealership that had a cancelation on a 2020 C8 Z51. I bought it for MSRP, drove it for 600 miles, and flipped it to a dealer in AZ for 20% profit. Reinvested in a C7 ZR1. It was a great car, but there's always another one to be found down the road.

Not as many to be found north of 50 Rodzilla. Especially the ZR1

The ZR1 is a whole different beast. I sold a C8 and C7 Z06 to get it. I didn't think that the 105 extra HP vs the Z06 would be much of a difference......I was way wrong. This puppy is way out there.....you better be hanging on when you put the pedal down. The C8 Z51 that I had was an incredible driving machine....almost knowing what you wanted it to do.....we have incredible I-15 highway right here and you can have a blast...hardly any traffic, 80 MPH speed limit....frequently exceeded....I'm sure my brothers and sisters North of Montana know where I'm coming from. Anyway, having had a bunch of Vettes and assorted other hot rods, including nitrous rockets ....my verdict is that the ZR1 totally rocks....it's like having nitrous on all the time. C8 Z06 should be phenomenal.....way different from C7, but absolute killer world class machine! Hope to get one at MSRP.

Lol.... Before Covid and with my C6 and my C7, wifey and I use to come down through your area yearly for a 2 week run. Hungry Horse is one of my favorite towns to overnight in. The Butte back up to Shelby was one of my favorite roads. Marie's pass was another. Blew past a Hwy Patrol set up on 15 pushing 90 one trip. Thought I was done for but I don't think he even started his car... Maybe he was sleeping... lol.... Getting any C8 up here at MSRP is challenging. I'm guessing getting the Z06 will be close to 50k over here.

Peshawa...I’ll believe it when I see it. GM is in the business of selling cars, not banning buyers.

Couldn’t agree more John…Happy Motoring!

We have documented proof of a black list. A member here was black listed and it took a lot of chatter to get him removed. You can scoff all you want to, but the black list is real.

I am pretty sure this banning happens, but have we ever seen this documented proof on this forum?
That's what I said. I will not speak for the member as it is not my place. If he is willing to repeat it he can.
Let me give one good reason why GM would not like flippers.
The base price for the C8 in Canada is very low relative to the dollar and the base price for the C8 in the States.
It would be a real nice deal for a Canuk to sell it to an American and therefor GM loses money that the American would pay.
I'm sure one can think of other reasons, like dealer sells for MSRP and flipper sells at a price 20% greater, then GM's dealer loses. etc. etc.
