finally,the new shop starts !

Doug, she's looking mighty fine!! Siding is probably one of the most PIA jobs building your own house, especially with vertical siding. Windows aren't bad to go around it's all those vent openings that are tough and I see four in that one corner. The other thing I see is the ledgers are installed for a serious square dance area right outside the garage doors or is it just a sitting area for a geezers luncheon! Looking good tho and are you in for this winter?
Cheers

rob, i think i'll make that area v.i.p. parking for the racecar all nicely cordoned off with the red velvet rope . it doesn't look like we'll be in the new place for at least a year. but it's not like we'll be homeless......yet .

I think I hear your wife saying, hell will freeze over before that happens!!! I guess you can just move inside when the crappy weather hits, allway lot to finish in there.

With our place, by the time we had the house closed in, roof on, windows and doors, we weren't even half done with the work. The inside work is time consuming. I can certainly identify with what Doug is going through and I was about 40 years younger when we did ours. Get some heat in there and you can work in comfort all winter.

when i need to finish off an area for the hydro meter or any venting etc., i cap it prior to siding. i use soffit "j" channel turned backwards as edging and a piece of flat stock as a face on 3/8" plywood.

well things are very hectic now. my mom passed away :( on saturday at the age of 98, a long and mostly happy life. now dealing with all the arrangements etc is quite a juggling act as i have a couple of different trades coming that i must do prep work for and also be present. makes for some late nights and early mornings - but whadda' ya gonna do ?

Doug, condolences to you and your family on the passing of your Mother.

Rest in Peace.

One way or another all the issues will work themselves out. Don't get stressed over it.

Doug, sorry to hear about your mom! At 98 she sure had witnessed a lot of history pass before her eyes. My sympathies to you and your family.

thanks for the kind thoughts boys. mother had certainly had many good years, but she had begun longing to be reunited with my dad. she was not ill for long and passed peacefully.

thanks again, doug.

buckhorn76 , my sympathies to you and your family. couple of weeks ago I helped carry my aunt to her grave, she was 101 1/2, never easy to lose someone close young or old.

thanks again for all the kind thoughts folks. yesterday we laid mother to rest and she is happy i'm sure to be reunited with my dad.

now i'll be back to the construction. we were able to get the vapour barrier and strapping on the ceiling by the time the crew came to blow in the attic - just. helen and i have about 70% of the walls insulated with roxul. i prefer using roxul as it is mould resistant and has a higher r value r22 as opposed to fibreglas r19. i also clad the exterior with inch and a half silverboard which adds r7.5. the propane tanks arrived and hopefully it won't be long until we have a hook-up and some heat.

Sounds like you are making headway Doug. Having some heat will make a big difference in the progress department.

Again, sorry about your mother. RIP.

Once you have heat, then you are well on your way. It doesn't matter how cold it gets outside. No fun working with freezing fingers. Been there.

well the insulation and vapour barrier passed inspection and we have the ceiling drywalled. after doing the insulation, poly wrap and strapping the ceiling, i realized that my shoulders and knees were'nt going to hold out for drywalling. i hired my two pals and i'm glad - they are real pro's in construction and happy to be working indoors in the winter. i leave the thermostat set at 50f which makes it quite pleasant for working and the propane use is pretty good. the house is well insulated - r30 walls and r50 attic. the goal is to have the lake house sold this summer and move summer/fall. no matter what, this summer, i'm taking weekends off to get to some events with the racecar. :D

Hey, I know that wonder dog, I miss her.

Progress is being made. I know you know this Doug but protect the furnace at all costs from Drywall Dust. Apparently if they find drywall dust in the components no warranty.

I think if Doug is going to do the Picton Arm Drop Races we all should have a go, a CCF meet. I would love to give it a try. Anybody else.
