Electronic exhaust sound

It has been noted that some exhaust sound is electronically generated and comes through the cars audio speakers. (I think I have that correct).

When driving slowly, especially accelerating slowly from a stop, my exhaust sound sometimes totally disappears for a second or two then reappears again. Does anyone else experience that? I have a feeling it has something to do with the electronic aspect of it. Or maybe the exhaust sound valves? I'm curious to hear others' experiences and thoughts.

Both my '21 and '23 have done this so is not year dependant...

So it's been said, but I've never noticed it myself.
Not sure how or why they do it really.

This explains it. Active Sound Management | Bose Automotive. They call it Engine Harmonic Enhancement . Or you could call it snake oil.
