So the latest from Quebec.
Just about everything is closed now. No more take out, it can only be drive thru. All parks/playgrounds are closed.
Police will now be issuing fines/jail time (good place to isolate - lol) for those who are too thick headed. Only essential services can congregate - health / enforcement / a few daycares authorized to stay open for those in essential services. Grocery stores are being asked to ensure social distancing for shoppers and to encourage online shopping.
A walk-in/drive thru clinic is being opened up in Montreal downtown and will process up to 2,500 people per day. They will be triaged though so as to not waste test kits on the paranoid.
Schools are shut to minimum May at the earliest.
My son received a Purolator package this past week. The guy just about threw it at him and didn't want a signature. Can't blame him.

And yet we are one hell of a lot better off than the USA. My daughter (doctor) was talking to two of her friends down in Kentucky. One is in a clinic - they have ten face masks for the patients. If you cough but don't have a fever = no mask. I would think that after max one hour the masks are gone. If the patient coughs up here you don't even get to see the doctor. You get shuffled off to triage for C.V.
The other girl is pregnant with her second child and the clinic has refused to let her take time off. These are specialists so not front line ER doctors. They are in deep dodo but luckily they have THE DON who knows all about Corona (he said so himself) so they will be just fine and this is just a Dem fake news story. I really feel sorry for them.

Take all the cheap shots you want at "The Don" he was proactive long before "Mr. Dress Up" and they called him a racist. Can't imagine what a mess the US would be in if Hillary were in power. Just building the Foundation coffers I guess.

Sorry but this s**t really pisses me off.

I applaud Quebec for going and taking drastic measures at this time. I would say "early" but, IMO, early would have been when Italy went into full-country lockdown.

There is a downfall though: Shutting everything down for 2-6 weeks isn't going to stop anything. Yes, it'll slow it, which I get is the point, but our economy and each individual is going to really suffer from it, financially. It's like we have two options:

1. Keep the economy going, but millions of people die from it hitting hard and fast (once someone gets and it recovers, they're immune and won't get it again).
2. Lockdown everyone right now so it stops spreading. The economy will take a plunge, not unlike that of the Great Depression, but we will save many many more lives in doing so. The downside with doing this is as soon as the lockdown is lifted, if there is anyone carrying the virus, it will suddenly begin to spread again. We're already seeing this in China. Their case numbers have plateaued or possibly started to fall (can someone fact-check this?). People are starting to feel safe, so they're going out again, and there's been a spike of cases in areas that were seeing numbers of cases falling.

Either way, the world is going to change, probably more than what we saw after 9/11. For better or worse. Hopefully for the better. We just have to get through it first.

I think you're referring to Community Immunity. Basically 'enough' people survive it and build immunity to essentially protect the rest. I believe the number is in the 50-60%. Yes I've been watching a loooot of YT shows with scientist types on this topic as I'm sure many of you have :) We will likely get there btw, I think the aim of the game is to slow it down so we don't have an Italy or now Germany and Spain unfolding here.

BTW the immunity much like the flu is temporary from what I've heard, you can still get it again but the science is out on how long it lasts. I think they recorded a few cases of people getting it again in China.

You're right though, things will change. I feel eventually for the better. We will have much better hygiene lol and the health apparatuses may be better prepared for something more deadly in future.

I am super sorry for the folks down south though as it would appear to be totally out of control in some areas for the time being.

Most Canadians don’t understand the fundamental difference between a parliamentary democracy and a republic. Federal response to this crisis is different in Canada than the US. Just a little thing called states rights. It is easy to drop it on the feet of any President, but Governors hold a much greater level of local accountability. Heath care in any state is a state responsibility led by the Governor. Not enough hospital beds in any state, for example, is a Governors’s responsibility, not the President’s. Are there issues, for sure, it’s just too easy to blame it on the one who makes himself a target instead of pointing the finger of blame at other individuals.

Ok ... gotta move along ....
Enjoying sports re-runs but i wish they would take them further back ... i have more than enough sports channels and showing stuff from last year is pathetic.
I need old and lousy Hockey and
Old and lousy Nascar and open wheel racing. Comeon Sportsnet and TSN.

I do have all but 7 of Dale Earnhardts Race Wins (including the IROCS) copied from VHS to DVD .... i think its time the CRTC is removed/shut down for our self-isolating. I’d even consider nominal Pay Per View for it - if I can’t swap CNN for it 😂

I sent you a PM. I have found quite a bit of vintage hockey. Even some flames stuff.

What keeps me up at night (besides the obvious) is the concern this will mutate and become something utterly devastating. Without trying to sound callous we are damn lucky this is not a severe form of this family of viruses. Based on what Hollywood has shown us and the spread rates for this virus we see in the real world; this is a fire drill compared to what it could be.
I'm not a scientist or Doctor however feel pretty sure we are being told what they think we can handle. There have been some very dangerous bugs throughout history, and over the last years that didn't receive this level of response. It's only my opinion but I think there is real concern franticly playing out in the background we are generally unaware of.

Ya... pretty negative line of thinking but armageddon is not just a word. (This is day 12 compared to your day 4 Eric) Let's do everything we can to help stop this thing while we can. This is will really hurt us financially. All of us sooner or later will be profoundly effected.

Let's see... 08:06 Monday morning and I'm sitting by the pool watching the news from US/CA. 19:06 in Edmonton so screw it, I'm having a drink...

Choice #1 is my preferred. 100 million dead is less than 1.5% of the global population. WHO and countries top bureaucratic doctors prefer TRASHING the global economy for a few tens of thousands, many of who were circling the bowl to begin with? Helluva calculus. We need that dolt Trump to spout some of his priceless inconvenient truths.

Just unbelievable. Guess as long as you are alright? Trouble is the virus does not seem to discriminate. And Trump is the "Dolt"?!

You could be correct. I would also suggest that two significant differences exist between this pandemic and previous, are that global open borders have not existed with this extreme ease of travel, and second is that social media exists. Neither one of these has helped corralling this virus.

Both very good points. Great contribution.

Dude, when Alberta separates, kindly stay in Ontario.

Wow. So you'd be ok if most of your family and family parishes from this virus or even you do?

It's been estimated, depending on how we react to it, this virus can infect 20-70% of the work population in a matter of months. With a mortality rate of 4.3% (current global rate), we're talking about 67,000,000 to 232,000,000 dead. In Canada alone, that's upwards of 1,100,000 people. That's the entire population of Hamilton and Kitchener combined!

And you're ok with this, compared to you not having any more money?

The vast majority of people being killed by COVID-19 are not "circling the bowl to begin with." It's killing people who are sick, yes, but also those who have compromised immune systems. People who have Rheumatoid arthirits, Lupus, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, Type 1 diabetes, Guillain-Barre syndrome, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, psoriasis, Graves' disease, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, myasthenia gravis, and vasculitis. Every single one of these people can live a very ordinary life, but if they get this virus before a vaccine is produced, they're pretty much dead.

What about all the people who have died from it who are young (like, 25 years old) and perfectly healthy with no history of health issues?

What about our grandparents or great grandparents? Should we all start planning funerals for them now?

How about literally ANYONE who is over 70 right now? How many people on this forum are retired and close to, if not over 70 already? I guess we might as well shoot them 'cause they're gonna die anyway. That's the attitude you've got.

Shame on you. I hope if you have grandparents, you'd have called them up already and told them you loved them, 'cause if things went your way, they'll be kicking the bucket before the snow falls again.

When l see JT walking around without5 armed guards then maybe l will surrender some guns l do not use any more till then you can take them from my cold dead hands after l have taken out a dozen less talented idiots
Maybe, just maybe, you should refrain from suggesting to shoot a dozen or so “less talented idiots” on a corvette forum. Especially when the inference is the less talented idiots would likely be law enforcement.

I think "idiot" is the keyword in your little tirade. Has this situation invoked that much stress on you? Maybe your intended point was less insane than it reads.... I can only hope that is indeed the case as your words are vile as read.
