I'm at a loss at how they kept those headers looking like that... I'm thinking they must have been brand spanky new....
Any uncoated headers I've ever had heat discoloured after the first hour or so of running.... Then I learned a little trick.... Painting hot headers with used motor oil.... Put up with the burnt oil smoke and smell about eight or so times and you end up with nice black pipes and not the rainbow of blues up near the exhaust ports... never had coated pipes so not sure if they discolour or not...
Lol... you think they had invented ceramic yet back then Derek.....
We didn't have any mountains where I grew up ion the east coast.... Sleds back then were nothing like what they became in the late 80's and onward.... I remember when bogey wheel suspension gave way to slide rails...we thought that was pretty kewl technology.... there were no shocks or other suspension on the skis then either.... hehe...... .. Then Tillotson gave way to Mikuni carburetors... wow.... lol.... In those days, $2,000.00 was a top of the line machine.... I had a 440 Silver Bullet TNT in 1973 and it was the fastest thing me or anyone else around small town Nova Scotia had ever seen.... lol.... Many years later I drove a 670 Summit and thought it was the quickest, most comfortable, best handling sled ever.... Not.... Every year they improve and improve.... I have no idea now what's out there but my neighbour who leases my cropland runs something that I'm thinking has at least a Z06 engine with both a supercharger and twin turbos on it.... this thing sounds like it must come close to the speed of sound..... lol....
That's quite the hood on your sled too.... not sure if I've ever seen one you could see through....

Derek wanted more horsepower in the ZR1. How about this one….Maybe more than one way to get to 800.
