Here are 3 pictures from my layout. I am just a beginner so the detail is not at the level of the examples shown earlier in this thread. My camera isn't that great either.

Hi to all railroad buffs. Having read through his thread I was reminded of an old document that was given me by my deceased brother in-law nearly 20 years ago. My brother in-law was a section foreman and a road-master with CN rail. The railroad was his entire work career from his start in the mid 1950's until he retired in the early 1990's. My wife is also from a railroad family and her father was a section foreman and she grew up living in section houses in remote isolated areas.

The attached document dates back to the late 1940's and was transcribed by a railroad buff and entered into a word processor file that became obsolete. I just used MS Word and converted it to a *.pdf file so that I could download it. I think this document was originally put out by GM's Detroit Engine EMD division as an introduction to to the railroaders of the coming diesel electric locomotive technology.

My wife still talks of an event when she was a little girl and her father was section foreman of the Jasper section. She remembered her father telling her she was about to witness a historic event and he took her out and they both stood beside the tracks as the first diesel locomotive passed by.

I hope some of you find this transcribed old document of interest.
Cheers

@SN-III Jesus that thing is huge. Been a while but is that an O Scale or the bigger G scale train?
Both of those Big Boy models are G guage. The 4012 is a brass model at 1/32 scale with same scale Corvette and Chevy pick-up next to it - weighs 35lbs engine & tender combined. The 4014 is slightly bigger at 1/29 scale and is much heavier (being a diecast model) at 75lbs engine & tender combined.

Your Big Boy collection is awesome. I pay admission to see your display two years in a row now. I hope you are able to find more and more of the pieces you want for your display. 🙂👍🏻 I just don’t see these everywhere.

4014 has quite a history.

Big Boy No. 4014 was delivered to Union Pacific in December 1941. The locomotive was retired in December 1961, having traveled 1,031,205 miles in its 20 years in service.

Bluevette 75 would love to see some pics of your collection. Like to know more about the Canadian Pacific Big Boy.

The last day the Big Boys ran was on July 21st, 1959. 4014 was the third-last Big Boy to be tied up in the Cheyenne yard at 1:55 am. 4015 was the last to be tied up at 7:55pm making it the last Big Boy to operate and move under it's own power until the evening of May 1st 2019 when 4014 moved under its own power backing out of the U.P. Steam shop. 1961 was when U.P. officially retired the Big Boy's and Challenger fleets.

I'm slowly getting there in acquiring all 25 in HO scale. I just have to spot the right deal. Working on finding a deal on an O scale model as well for comparison.
Attached are some pics of the 1/32 scale Big Boy #4012 running on the Rocky Mountain Garden Railroad Society's display.
