Beware Yellow!

I used the same Marvy Uchida and since the stitching is a bit gray , at least on the 2020, not pure white. That mixed with yellow ended up as a muddy greeny gray yellow. Looked bad. Fortunately I only tried it on the carpet mats and inconspicuous spot on car, and washed it off immediately.

Trying to dye yellow is no bueno. Not even close to factory yellow stitch. I too have yellow seat belts, and love them.

Yea ... yellow would probably be too light to get the proper effect .... the best results I think would come with red as its such a dominant color to begin with ....

Orange seems to work pretty well too

Oh if these were the only problems in the world ... we'd be in great shape ;)

My yellow marvy did a great job , since I ordered black interior with grey seats , GM wouldn’t allow the yellow stitching option . My stitching looked white to me and it’s a beautiful yellow. I’m very pleased with the outcome.

Firstly, make sure you know that if you attempt this, IT IS NOT REVERSABLE. You are literally dying the stitching another color. If you meant to do orange, and started with pink, you got pink for what was done ;) PICK THE RIGHT COLOR !!!

The "Fabric Markers" i used were exactly the following: Marvy Uchida # 522 (#7 orange). I ordered 5 of them, and I used 4 in total, which included busting one open to take out the felt inner and used for the hard to get places .. I have one left for any touchups if needed. $16.90 usd all in ...

The entire, tedious, process took 7 hours start to finish. 3 separate sessions as occasionally i felt like i was going cross-eyed. Put the roof down, to give you as much light as possible.

As mentioned above, it is as simple as colouring a 6-12" stretch at a time, getting some on the leather is just fine as there is a grace period of approx 1 minute to wipe it down and get any excess outside the stitching. Might be a tad longer but I felt that colouring stitching and immediately wiping it off in 5 seconds, did in fact wipe some off the stitching as well. So for me, optimal seemed to be 50-60 seconds. which gave time for the dye to soak into the stitches a little, and ample time to wipe everything and get off the excess easily. A few places I went over the stitching 2 times, just to darken it down a little.

Overall it is really just a time consuming process, yes there are a couple places on the dash that are VERY hard to get too .. but I found taking the guts (foam stick inside marker) of one marker and cutting a .5" long piece of it, with a latex glove on, and wiping that on the hard to get stitches then wiping excess really simplified it. The pen just will not reach some of them at all.

When I was done, I offered my 10 year old daughter $20 if she could find ANY white stitching or spots that i missed that stood out .... the $20 is still firmly in my pocket :cool:

Hi guys! I’m new to the forum. I just picked up a 2024 torch red Z06 1LZ. It has the GT3 cloth seats in it. I want to make my interior stiching red. I watched the videos on YouTube about it. It seems everyone has the full leather seats options. My question is will these fabric pens stain the cloth portions of my seats? I know they wipe off the leather easily but I’m concerned they won’t wipe off the cloth the same way. Thanks for the help. Cheers!

Yeah, I wouldn't imagine it would work, and most likely would stain the cloth. I would advise against it.

But Congrats on the new car !!! ENJOY !

Might be a bit harder to remove the ink from fabric ....

I wouldnt bother with legit " fabric markers " .... grab a pack of fine tip Sharpies ... the fine tip should make it easy to avoid staining the fabric on the seats ... practice on those cheap carpet floor mats that came with the Vette

Just touch the fine tip to the center of each stitch and watch it get soaked up ... satisfying but very time consuming

Sharpies make a really nice red ink and they will always be available

Corvettes with cloth interiors were available primarily from 1977 to 1982. During this period, cloth was a no-cost option alongside leather, allowing buyers to choose their preferred material. Notably, cloth interiors were offered in models like the C3 and were particularly common in the 1980-82 models, although leather was more popular among buyers. While cloth interiors are not considered rare, original patterned fabrics are no longer available, making restoration challenging.

lol.... I was actually referring to newer models. He said his is a 2024. What's perplexity say about that? I know I'm perplexed.... :Biggrin:
 
I was actually waiting for an allocation to place my order for a torch red Z06 1LZ. My preferred build was with the red leather seats that came with red stitching on the interior. It was concerned I wasn’t going to actually recievw the car until summer 2025 or potentially longer. The GM dealer called me up and told me they had a similar build to what I was looking for that was in stock that I could purchase immediately with no wait. And was 5K under MSRP so I jumped on it. The only downfall was that it was optioned with “cloth” GT3 seats and the alcantara steering wheel. I decided I could live with it and would use the markers to change the stitching on the interior lol. I have no regrets seeing as the car is sitting in my garage and I have a giant smile on my face :)
