Wandering off topic again today. Not a 58 Chev, probably rarer than a C8 Z06 here we have...

Interesting... I had an uncle who drove nothing but Buicks. I remember being in his big black '58, we passed a car and he said "have you ever gone a 100 MPH?" I said "no." He replied "Well, you just did".

I remember the first time I went 100 miles per hour. I was 17 driving my uncles 64 Plymouth Belvedere on a grid road.. I must have been totally crazy... I was definitely very lucky that nothing went wrong..

OT:
I had a Crazy uncle.
I learned to drive the old boys car around 11y/o. A '64 Strato Chief with 3 on the tree. I'd never tried an automatic, nor had I ever felt power steering and power brakes.
Crazy Uncle drops by in his brand new '67 Newport (land barge) with a 383ci engine, power everything.
He took me to some grid roads outta town, and I took the driver's seat.
To this day, I can feel the power of the engine, and the lightness of the steering.
I was going along fine, until Crazy Uncle planted his size 14 foot on my right (gas pedal) foot. In no time at all, the speedometer went past 120mph. Fast approaching was a momma cat crossing the road with kittens in tow. I was 12, and near smp. Somehow, I missed them.
I didn't like automatics.

My next experience with silly speed was on my Kawasaki 500 triple. I was doing 110, changed lanes and felt the rear end skip on the paint line. That was enough of that nonsense for me.

I remenber my first time hitting 100 MPH, '91 Cavalier with 3.1L hit 185 km and the governer kicked in...I thoughtI blew up the transmission, oh to be young and foolish

How about my story in a 46 Buick 4 door sedan. Steeles Avenue, north of Toronto, was a one lane, dirt road back in those days that crossed the railway tracks just west of Dufferin Street. The railway was quite a bit above the road surface so to cross the tracks was like one of those dare devil ramps that were used in the thrill shows. We were going to try and beat the jump record by racing this beast over the tracks. About 12 of us kids piled in the car and off we went. Luckily we could not make 100 mph but we did jump a fair bit. Problem was the bias ply 6.70/15 tires weren't up to the task and we blew three on the landing causing the driver to lose control and over we rolled in the ditch. There were no seat belts back then but 12 kids were jammed in like sardines so nobody was hurt. I never did find out if we beat the record. 100 mph would have to wait.

Yes I was there that night, Biderman slid over the roof of Makara's car got in through the back window opening and started kicking him in the head as Makara continued around the track with speed. Makara stopped his car on the start finish line and like the saying goes "all hell broke loose".

Jim Hallahan was a pretty competitive racer. He raced early at the CNE as I recall.

We never had fights at the races I went to, but that was Biederman !!! Here's Bob. We raced "modifieds" at CNE also, but Jim Hallahan wasn't there when I was. Next year moved up to Super Modifieds with Joe Hlywka - that's a whole other story as well. Love those days which are just memories now, but fresh as yesterday.
