Derek is bang on in his advice, and I would add one thing in addition to the potential for scratches--do not let water spots form on the roof as they will penetrate the surface and you will be stuck. Does anyone have any experience or comment regarding "door sill protectors" that are available on the Corvette Store web site?

I had Suntek film installed over the sills as well as a good portion of other places Cobra when new. So far so good, no discolouring and my sill film has a couple of minor scuffs, so I'm glad I did. All the replies are good and yes. Protect them. This is what mine look like.

So considering I optioned the transparent panel, should I expect then from the factory that in addition to the transparent panel ordered that I will also get a solid car coloured roof panel too, the one that would come with the car if no optioned panel was ordered? I doubt that, but it would be nice!

When I ordered mine I choose the Lexan(see-through) roof panel. You only get that at around a grand extra. You have to order both to get both which is around $1800. Funny how they don’t credit you for the ‘free’ body coloured panel but like different coloured calipers, they still charge you. Ordering the clear panel is the way to go though. I had both on my C6 and never used the solid one after buying the Lexan one off of Kijiji.

This week I contacted my salesperson and modified my order from just a "transparent roof panel" now to "dual roof panel", being "transparent and carbon fibre".

Thanks again to everyone......your continual assistance/recommendations are greatly appreciated!

So after confirming my order was modified to the dual roof panel (transparent and carbon fibre) today the dealer also advised me my order is stalled at 1100. He said this is normal and totally under GM's control, as they will move the order forward once they determine when it's the appropriate time to build based on my geographic location.

The salesman whom I'm dealing also said that he reviews weekly updates from the manufacturer and that he will keep me apprised so that I can still try and arrange a visit to Bowling Green hopefully when my car is going through the assembly line.

If you’re getting the dual roof option (see through and solid), there is a reasonably priced storage bag for the roof you do not have on the car.

I got mine off eBay as well. Roof fits well and nicely protected.

Well as stated I successfully modified my order to the dual roof panel option, transparent and carbon fibre. I realize I need a storage bag to protect the roof panel not being used as I don't welcome simply storing it in the trunk for obvious reasons.

If the quality and inside liner by design is such that the roof panel is protected extremely well, then the $150 price tag would seem reasonable, however the photo and description does not provide me great confidence of that.

For those that have purchased this bag does if have a soft inside liner to protect the roof panel when stored and is it relativly good quality?

Yes it has a very soft inside liner Cobra.

The one available on the GM dealership website is identical to the one I got off eBay. Both in quality and price.
So if you have concerns just buy the OEM one from GM.

I wonder if the nano ceramic coating will prevent water spotting on the roof panel.

I would think so. It should offer the layer of protection well.
I put Xpel on my carbon top so no issues there. For the clear one I didn’t put any on it and found scratches from handling more of a challenge than water spots.
The water is wiped immediately off after washing so that was never a concern. As far as rain goes I actually never got caught with the clear roof on.
Should be some interesting suggestions here soon.

Not sure many have applied film on their own. I wouldn't attempt it myself as I have trouble not wrinkling scotch tape, but good on ya if you do. Some body panel film sections are laser pre-cut from factory. If the particular panel doesn't have a pre-cut, they have to cut in place. One of the film application companies should be able to answer that for you.

I know Dereks is the same but with no painted rail, fully exposed and for a 2017.
I immediately had mine Xpel'd by my local application specialist that car dealers use in YYC.
These people have templates available to them for cutting the film, then show up and peel it
from the backing and then apply it. Mine is a mobile service & comes to my home.
One thing I found watching this application is that it most likely will involve a cut line between the
top surface at where it would curve over the side rail - in a valley (the point where the
painted portion meets the exposed carbon fiber on my panel (photos below).
This is because the film lifts or might get noticeable stretch marks if worked too hard.
The cut line can be felt but is not noticeable over time (as one just forgets about it).

Exactly
... and with a good installer ... one can change that comment to
“I'm the only one that would know he/she can feel the splice”

Which means it makes no difference to me letting anyone know it’s there ... and
now I've maybe got a couple checking their roof panels to see if they have a splice
and never knowing it might have even been there
(full panel cover only - the partials have no cut line as I was cheap a$$ed
and my solid color roof panels have partial Xpel only & no splice) ...

My installer also mentioned to me that some on-line protection products can be
"chin... knockoffs" and that he has replaced quite a few self-applied attempts.
Most noticeable on window tints with all those air bubbles and when on
white paint that looks yellowed. I do not know the validity of his comment though
as I live by "YYSSW" and that I "get what I pay for".
