leaving tbay heading for cabin
Well everybody I made my meeting in time no problem at all. After my Thunderbay appointment, I headed over to the intercity shopping centre in Thunderbay. I went to sunrise records. I bought a CD and lo and behold the CD player does not function! booooo.

I think I’m gonna spend the money and get it fixed.

Unfortunately I blew right past the Terry Fox monument. All the way back in Calgary I wanted to park this car by the Terry Fox Monument and get a photo. Oh well, guess I’ll have to buy another car later and do it then.

From here I head west to a small town called Ignace where I will spend the night on a nearby lake. I will be parking the car in a close friend garage for the night and then heading for calgary either tomorrow or the next day depending on the weather across the prairies.

Looks like there might be some snow tomorrow. I think I want to avoid snow in this car!

Here’s a few more pics

Good luck on the drive!
I bought a ‘59 Catalina Convertible last August in Denver and drove it back to Edmonton. Your comment about worrying about every little thing on a long trip with a recently purchased car is so true. A buddy of mine made the trip with me and we high fived when we were 10 km south of Red Deer which put us in range of the free tow with AMA RV Plus. lol

Fun times!

so once I get Thunderbay, I was in familiar territory. As I mentioned the family has a cabin two hours west of here and we commonly come to the city of Thunderbay for various reasons during our stay out here each summer. One of my favourite places is Kaeka Becca falls. Usually it’s really hot when we come here and the spray off the Falls is a welcome cooling off period for the family. I knew I would not be able to capture the car with the falls Because you can’t drive close enough. So instead I ran in and took a picture enjoyed the mist on my face and carried on. Westward. Yeah the spelling of Kaeka Becca is not correct but that’s because I’m using Siri to dictate all these emails there’s no way I could write them while driving. Please excuse the poor spelling and possibly poor grammar!

Normally when I’m here it’s luscious and green and I’m with my beautiful wife and four daughters.

On the road again.
last night I slept at my family‘s cabin. Which is cool. But of course I wasn’t going to drive the car down the gravel road. So I parked at a buddies play in a nearby town and he gave me a ride out to camp. The next morning, my mom said she had found some mouse poop. Well that turned into an entire operation today that involved removing the kitchen cabinet and pulling the clapboard off extracting a whole bunch of insulation behind it, and then putting it all back together.

then, we had to fall a tree that had a widow maker on top after this winter. haul that to the fire pit, after that I thought I better get out of there or I would end up staying a few days working. I actually like the work. I enjoy doing improvements to the property. So I had an offer to take a ride back to the town where the car was parked and I took it spontaneously. This way I will be home tomorrow.

The other snag I could see on the horizon is that my City of calgary is projected to get snow falls on Saturday and Sunday. Well I don’t wanna be driving this far and no obviously so, I need to make it home tomorrow. There are couple photographs of my brief lesson 24 hours a day trip at the cabin overnighting.

This is how she spent the night. Safe and with her hood up

So from a small town called Ignace, I will head to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Stay in a hotel on the west side of the city. From there I am 14 hours home which I will do in one shot the next day.

Due to my spontaneous decision to pick up and hit the road again, I will be passing through ye beautiful city of kanora Ontario in the dark. There were some great photo op with the car on the banks of Lake of the Woods. I guess I will have to pick up another car another day and get Those photographs some other time.

before I left town, I had to stop and get a photograph of the ZR one in front of some float planes. Ownership at this business called Ignace outpost has just changed hands and I wanted to meet the new owners and purchase a hoodie from them. Success with both and manage to get this photo On the shores of Lake Accomac in Behr aviation yard. The ice came off the lake two weeks ago.

update!!

I am once again on the western half of the continent. So I’m feeling like I’m almost home. In fact I’m about nine hours from home.

So yesterday after making the decision to leave The cabin a little early, I transitioned out of the Canadian shield which is the boreal forest with lots of metamorphic and igneous rock outcropping that makes geologists like me horny. It just does.

I spent the night at the super eight in Winnipeg Manitoba. I waited out front for valet but nobody showed up. I awoke to a beautiful vista over the TransCanada highway looking over the prairies. I have to admit I miss the boreal forest and the lakes.

To get home to my wife and children I must cross the prairies and go all the way to the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains. In the arms of the foothills.

The speed limit over the prairies is much higher than in the Canadian shield. For obvious reasons. The Canadian shield, the penalty for going off the road is Insta death. You’ll hit a rock. Here on the prairies you’d probably just come do a rolling stop in a hayfield or a canola field, not to mention the road here is perfectly straight.

Due to the increase in travel speed I stopped at a city called Brandon Manitoba grabbed breakfast and drove to a tire shop where they could re-balance my tires. Previous to this I was unable to exceed 105 km/h without a horrible shake. He rebalanced and all is well.

from there I spent about two hours on the phone with some work related business, using this hands-free I bought for the trip and it’s very good. No one can tell I’m driving. It’s a Plantronics, highly recommended for people who drive and talk hands-free.

So now I am approaching the town in which my mother and father met and crew up. It is called Moose jaw, saskatchewan. When I roll through here with the children we always stop at this gigantic moose. so I think it’s only appropriate that I get a photograph of the moose and the Z.

Here are some more photos to share, and oh by the way when we did the tires rebalancing, I had a look underneath the car. Looks like there is a small oil leak somewhere towards the front of the engine. So to all of my LT5 Brothers and sisters now, looks like I’ll be heading over to the ZR1 section and the registry, to diagnose and repair. That should keep me occupied for a good couple of months.

Typically I stay at the holiday in express. I find them to be new, clean, and contemporary. I’m not a huge fan of Motel six. But I was very tired and it was right there on the highway.

Are those some of the rail cars Rachel said she was buying a couple of weeks before she was shown the door? :canada:

This has been an excellent trip summary VT. Well done.

I don’t think the rail cars that Rachelle ordered are even ready for service for another year. Maybe if we are lucky the end of 2019. Either way, I think Jason Kenney, my main man, is going to take care of business in conjunction with Ontario Saskatchewan Manitoba and everywhere in BC other than the Fraser Valley. I think the pendulum is swinging my friend! It also looks like the east is moving towards a business friendly climate. Here’s hoping!

In the moose jaw. 7hrs till home.
As a kid i never understood why they named it moosejaw.

But it makes for a great photo op. Very Canadian. As I was driving through the Canadian shield a couple nights ago, I passed three! Moose on the side of the road. That was a little disconcerting as in a vette I think it would be instantaneous sayonara. Lucky for me I reached my destination shortly after dusk.

Here is the moves that will not walk out on the road in front of you. I know my girls at home are going to love this one! We stop here all the time on our way to the cabin and back.

At Moose jaw Saskatchewan they are very serious about moose. They even named their hockey team after the moves. And then the local McDonald’s even made a display. About moose. Or meese as it were.

I do not know what the white and black moose fighting signifies. But I’m sure it probably offends some snowflake somewhere. It’s actually kind of cool to see the mcdonald’s are rolling with a little bit of local Decour.
Edit

Well it looks like you are on the home stretch and should beat the snow if any is to fall Calgary way. Yeah that Moose was in the news alot awhile ago, I guess they are going to make the horns bigger so that it once again can be claimed the biggest in the world. So curious what that engine is doing for gas milage ?, is it hitting 30 mpg ? And glad to hear you made it past the turkeys.

The low RPM in 6th gear reduces the water pump flow and results in the temperature getting higher than in 5th year.

whew i think my macdonald’s is putting me to sleep

Well I am not much for trusting digital readouts, but yours at 7 /100 converts to approx 40 mpg, wow if that is true then it is fantastic. My LT1 in the 93 shows mostly 8 bouncing to 9 / 100 and actuall fuel used works out to 29+ , yet 8 / 100 works out to 35 mpg. So considering the difference, looks like you are getting about 35mpg at least which is great for the horses. The temp rise in 6th should not really happen I think but you may wanna check the rads if they are clean. Bugs over the years and if no one ever cleaned between the condenser and radiator there could be some restriction to air flow.

So awesome!

Congratulations on your purchase. That was my dream car when I was a teenager, and although I would still love to own one, I ultimately bought something newer. Good for you for holding onto your dream and buying perhaps the best C4 ever made, and in my personal opinion, quite possibly the most incredible Corvette ever built. It really is that significant of a car.

I know a fellow who owns two C4 ZR1s. One has about 27km on it (basically the transport to the dealership, and a test drive to make sure it was all good), and it has been in indoor display ever since. The second one he bought to drive. Must be nice to be rich.

I flew to Phoenix to purchase my Trans Am and I drove it back home. It is absolutely one of my most significant memories. One of the greatest times of my entire life. I hope it is good for you too.

Thank you so much for posting this thread and all of the photos. I am going to enjoy this!

Wow, that bridge!

Great color on the car, and it looks quite original.

Heated mirrors in 91! wow!

wow. first time in a z. i wasn’t expecting this power band.

haha, V-TEC baby! Okay, that's not really all that funny, but it is the truth in the most basic of ways. This was Chevrolet's answer to the imports challenge of overhead cams and 4 valves per cylinder. They not only proved that they could do it too, but they proved that theirs was superior! Enjoy that sound and that power band, because it is unique to just one model of car - the one you are driving.

Once again....

CONGRATULATIONS!

Home safe in Calgary Canada.

And yes it is snowing this morning so very pleased with the decision to high tail it across the praries home.

Ive now owned 3 early c4’s, an 85 z51 auto, 86 base 4+3, and an 87 z52 auto.

Raining cats and dogs when pulled up but the 315’s only broke loose on the ring road once.

I will see this thread through to the end by including some a few posts about any damage that the car incurred along the huge 4743 km trip. The car did take some damage, i’ll share that with you on this trip.

Furthermore im looking forward to sharing my initial thoughts on the real world tangible differences in the driving experience between the 91 zr1 and the 3 early model cars ive had. (still have the 87 and the 86).

So hang in there on this thread and we will do some followup posting with more pics and some videos.
