Jesus, how much has this cost me...

See above your post.
Learn about knock. The hotter it is outside the more likely a car is to knock. The cooler it is outside the less likely it is for engine to knock. It's all about burn rates and engine timing. All of which are stored in tables in your computer. There are also knock sensors which detune a car if it hears knock, again no harm, but the likelihood of that in cold weather is extremely low.

INCORRECT OR LOW-OCTANE FUEL

When you fill your vehicle with gas, you typically have several options for fuel type: regular, mid-grade, and premium. These fuel grades are also paired with numbers, which are the fuel's octane. Octane is a measurement that tells you how resistant a fuel is to abnormal combustion.
Nowhere in the 2024 manual does it say "ask Murray what fuel he uses in his car, and follow suit".
That I could find, perhaps others have an updated version?
One last time, you do your thing, and the rest of us will do ours.
I need a break.....

I didn't say I did that. I said one could do that. Why don't you learn how cars work before you contradict people?

Ya, I don't go to Ultramar or Pioneer anymore. Costco apparently only buys top tier fuels. That's likely the best price. I use C.T. because of the dollars back. They only buy top tier fuels also.

I only posted it to give @Jack Raccoon! something else to not read, lol .
Shell have Top Tier as well as Co-Op here in YK . Just paid $1.86 a litre today for 91 octane. There is a difference between Top Tier and standard fuel and it doesn’t seem there is much if any difference in price.

I'm pretty sure Pioneer didn't use top tier fuels when I used it many years ago. it was then 3 cents cheaper per liter. C.T. gives back that much so it isn't worth buying standard fuel.

Pay wall .
Several years ago I heard a radio host tell his co-host that she shouldn't use her cars manufacturers recommended 87 octane because it will hurt her car. She should only use premium! It seems you can't even trust radio host as well as the internet! lol

We get 7 cents a litre rebate from Co-Op on all fuel purchases including home heating oil. They pay it out twice a year I believe. Even if top tier costs more by a few cents it’s well worth it considering how little it is over the course of a year. Peanuts when you’re talking about a 15 or 20 thousand dollar engine.
