GM Price Protection Experiences

So sounds like there is a piece we do not see and that is the assigned allocation to the dealer. If the dealer has a valid allocation and it is assigned/matched to your order, then when at 1100 you get price protection.

But we never see that allocation matching, and looking at the copies of my workbench order do not see where it would show.
 
You won't see allocation matching. That is when the order reaches Status 2000. The way he will get price protection is if his order was accepted and a deposit made, yet they could not produce the car that year. In other words, there was an allocation for that dealer and GM could not fill it because of constraints or whatnot. It would then automatically be bumped to the next years model.
 
Wow, lots of information and questions for the dealer. Since Tues, this is what has happened.

Called the salesperson and basically asked what the situation was with price protection and this is what he said.

He talked to allocation/order guy and they are waiting for the invoice from GM to be produced so they can apply for PP. The salesman told me that I should not worry as even the 2 cars that were produced in march and delivered were PP as the customer expected.

I am going in tomorrow to discuss a few other issues and check with the manager myself. Hopefully good news. I will try to get the 1100 versus 2000 question confirmed.

I ordered my car in August of 2014 and the order went to 1100 the next day. I paid the same price as was stated on the workbench in Sept. of last year.
There was no price increase applied to my order at all from the dealer.
 
This is how it works, Atleast for me.

I ordered October 03/13 Deposit Paid.
Workbench 1100 next day, Car is now price protected as told by dealer
May 5/14 Dealer says no 2014 anymore. Order banks for 2015 are opening.
Deposit moved over to a 2015 based on the build at that time. (it was a little higher)
May 5th 2014 and got workbench code 1100 immediately Car Price Protected as told by dealer.
Feb 9/15 TPW for March 9/15
April 15/15 Received Car :coolgleam:
Paid within 1k of agreed upon price in 2014.
If I ordered on April 15/15 I would have paid 10k more for the same Z51

Crazy as it is the 19 Month wait seems like nothing once you put it in Sport/Track and rip around,

Going for a rip now...........

GM Canada when you put your order in with your dealer, gives your dealer a 7 digit code, and your order sits at 1100, GM Canada tell each dealer how many allotments they have at the start of the build year, it's only when an allotment is given to your dealer from GM Canada that they are then allowed to submitted to Bowling Green and then it goes to code 2000 and is accepted by GM USA. Until it goes to code 2000 Bowling Green has no idea that they are building a car for you.

I'm pretty sure I know of a case where an order was placed, without guaranteed allocation, the order was 1100 next day price protected, then late allocation was given after price increases and dealer promised price protection going back to price as of original order date and any incentives.
 
After waiting for over a year from initial order, I had the same problems you are having. Although I love the car and enjoy it every time I drive it, it was the worst buying experience of my life. I did get a small price protection from GM but it was a drop in the bucket compared to the actual price increases over that time frame.

That is a great outcome urrtoast... I ordered a month before you (a sold order not dealer stock) and that was not my experience and not others either, same situation where eventually I had to move to a 2015 when they couldn't make good on my 2014 allocation. Sounds like you had a salesman that knew what he/she was doing at a good dealership. Do you mind sharing what dealership that was... so others can deal with them rather than putting up with the crap that some of us have endured at other dealerships.

I am new to the site, but have enjoyed reading about all the corvette knowledge here. If it helps at all, I am also in the Vancouver area ( Langley actually ), and could give you a brief summary of my experience, since it sounds similar to yours. I gave a deposit to a local dealer Dec / 2013 for a 2014 Z51 2LT. They took my money and said they still had allocation left and delivery would be 4 or 5 months. Of course as we all now know, that was complete hogwash. I eventually was first on the list at that dealer for a 2015 model. The process was irritating - the car was finally built mid August and delivered early October and I was then hit with a further one month wait until they decided what to do about the controversial PDR issue here in Canada ( not an issue in the US ). After the dust settled, I eventually got $1,400 price protection, and a couple more concessions from the dealer that made up a total of $2,800 in savings. My 2014 originally listed for $70,000 and change and was later retailing at $77,000 and change. I paid about $74,2000. I later proved that they lied to me originally about having allocation for a 2014 and by the time I spoke to them about that, the salesman I dealt with was dismissed by then ( but the Sales Manager was in on the whole deal - go figure ! ). Sounds like you may be in the same boat but hopefully you enjoy the car more than think about the process that got you there. If you extrapolate the extra expense over the life of ownership of the car, its not so bad right ? Cheers
 
Sounds like another dealer that at least made an effort to "make it right", was that the Langley dealership you dealt with?

Obviously lying to you about allocation in an attempt to lock you in with a deposit is not cool, and lots of dealers do it, I have my suspicions about that with my dealer, Carter GM in Burnaby, but have not been able to prove it.

Although my salesman at Carter promised over and over again (in writing as well as verbally) that they would help me out and minimize any difference from my original 2014 order to the 2015 that I was forced to move to when they couldn't produce my 2014 allocation, they did nothing for me. In the end I only got the gm "price protection" of $1400 but ZERO from the dealership. Carter would not give me even one cent off, and treated me very poorly to boot... Do Not deal with Carter GM!

Price difference for my Z51 from original order was $14,000, but i was forced to change colour as Cyber grey was discontinued, so I also made an interior colour change that bumped me up to 3LT from 2LT so that is on me, the difference in 2014 would have been approx. $4,500 and I don't mind paying an extra $500 for the 8 speed. In the end I consider my difference to be around $9,000 although you could argue that I got some extras thrown in through re-packaging of options even though I did not order these items (dealer didn't even know about it at time of order) so real "damage" would be a couple of grand less. With zero assistance from Carter it was a hard pill to swallow, I felt like walking away from the deal, but life is short and the car is still an amazing performance bargin. The bad taste in my mouth is slowly fading away but I will never deal with Carter GM ever again and will tell anyone who will listen to stay away too.

We as consumers should do what we can to warn each other about the bad dealers and tout the dealers that are reputable and are trying to do the right thing, in a bad environment. When I approached the Langley dealership they flat out told me that they did not have a 2014 allocation left. The people i dealt with there were honest with me. It may come down to individuals sometimes, although honesty should come from the top down in any dealership.

Like i said before, life is short, so have fun with your cars everyone!

I completely agree. Top management sets the example that filters down the ladder. Integrity is a huge issue when it comes to dealing with the public. I was fortunate to be able to get a little bit off (not from the price of the car) from the dealer prep and some fees as well as a voucher from GM $1500. The car is only worth as much as the customer is willing to pay. The rest is purchasing experience. :agree:

And yes, life is short, enjoy your car.

The Dealer I ended up with was Dueck Downtown. Of course I first approached Preston's in Langley and like you said, they were honest with me as well in saying they had no allocation. The funny thing was that they also said I would need to pay an extra $5,000 " signing fee " to get on the waiting list for a 2015. I thought this would be a form of an early deposit toward the price of the car - not so, just an extra over the top fee since the cars were so hard to get. I hadn't heard of that one before. Also, like you mentioned as well, if we take a step back and think of how short life is, just forget the problems in this case and enjoy.

A signing fee to purchase a Corvette? What a bunch of crap, run and run as fast as you can. My dealer took a $1,000.00 deposit to be applied off my purchase price. Build starts one day next week. The anticipation is starting to get to me..

I just did my first service (oil change) at Dueck downtown and had a pretty good experience so I will be continuing my relationship with them.

How did you prove that they lied about the allocation?

Nobody mentioned a $5,000 extra fee to me at Preston, I would have walked too.

Since I am in Langley, I have been at Preston's for my 500 mile change ( too far to go to Dueck ). It was a good experience. FYI - one of the many times I was at Dueck during my wait, I asked someone in srvc if they use Mobil 1 oil instead of Dexos. He said no since Dexos is the minimum reccomended oil. Another srvc man overheard and said all corvettes get Mobil 1. I then asked the Srvc Manager who promptly said they don't unless you request it and pay an up-charge over the price of the Dexos. I really was having a lot of trouble getting a straight answer from anyone on this subject. Sounds like they took care of you well though. At Preston's, they too asked me to pay the difference to get fully synthetic ( $60.00 ) - I used the newest Castrol Synthetic. As far as the lie, it is a long story but I was able to prove through talking with key sales and management staff at another dealer that " no dealer in North America " wouldn't have known that there were no more allocations for a Z51 at that time. I later also found out they just held my name during the first 6 months in limbo and when it was time to send in the orders for the 2015's to the factory, they quickly put my name first on the list ( the salesman told me so ). I later found out that all people in NA who ordered a 2014 and didn't get one would get the first of the August builds " IF " they were first on that Dealers List. Wow, long story, sorry but that is what happened in a nutshell.

Hi AllFlash,

So, if this is the scenario and a customer gets bumped to a 2015 from an original 2014 allocation, what happens regarding price? Do you get the original price or just the $1400 (Z51) GM "price protection"?

In ceo2b's case it's an approx. $10,000 difference after all the price increases over that waiting period, mine was a little less because I was lucky and got my car in the fall and avoided some of the price increase that ceo2b is faced with. What recourse do customers that put down a deposit and had a order placed have available to them, when through no fault of theirs, GM couldn't produce their car?
 
You only get the price protection that, in that case, GM published and guaranteed. It wouldn't make sense for GM to give you the newer model at the older model price.

The bad news at the end of the day is that there is no recourse. That dealer can decide not to honour rebates and price protection, and even add another premium on if he wants.

If GM can't produce your car by year end, the only thing you have is there commitment to move you to next years model.
