Drive Clean has...

The service adviser told me that it's all about a money-grab for the provincial government. I said, "How can that be? I'm paying you for the test, not them".

"Cause we had to buy the new mandatory computerized system from the government", was his answer. "The $35.00 (plus tax) doesn't even cover our labour costs. We do it to provide service to our customers".

I believe him.

:swear:

My M.P.P. is Rob Milligan, member of the opposition.

Your M.P.P. is listed here - Legislative Assembly of Ontario | Members (MPPs) | Current MPPs

I fired an e-mail off to our MP Barry Devolin and MPP Laurie Scott the other day. If enough people get after them about the money grab, they might.......might do something. Moaning to each other accomplishes nothing.

with a provincial election more than likely on the horizon the opposition members may be the the ones to broach the subject with. we are both in the same riding keith i will email laurie scott as well. i have found her to be approachable in the past. because it is a provincial matter i will not bother with devolin as the conservatives have a majority and plenty of time left in their mandate. they seem to be rather busy giving away our oil industry anyhow.

After three trips (sans valid sticker) to Lindsay, Markham and Peterborough, I was finally able to get the Tahoe's on-board computer into a ready state so that the testing facility could actually test it. I purchased a valid sticker last Thursday, almost two weeks after the expiry.

Saturday's Toronto Star, page W1, took another swipe at this Ontario Drive Clean DISASTER (the new system in place as of January 1st).

Details here - Wheels.ca

Important Reminder.

If you have an e-test coming up, do NOT disconnect your vehicle's battery (to make repairs, etc.) if your sticker expires within the next few weeks. If you do, your on-board computer will lose all emission records and will have to relearn everything before you will be able to get a PASS on the test.

This relearning process may take several days, or even weeks!

Get your e-test BEFORE disconnecting the battery, if at all possible.

glad to hear you finaly got it sorted out but what a nightmare. doesn't that whole earth hugging culture thing revolve around saving fuel ? - hard to do when going through that nonsense !!!

Got a surprise phonecall a few moments ago from Rob Milligan, M.P.P., P.C. my local member of the Ontario Legislature, who tells me that he has spent the better part of today phoning people who have emailed him complaining about the new Drive Clean testing problems.

After we talked, he had another 25 calls to make. He's hearing nothing but nightmare stories (like mine). He swears that a new government will look seriously at dropping this program entirely, just like the B.C. government is doing with their AirCare 20-year-old testing program. It's on its way out.

If you haven't contacted your M.P.P. yet, the list of members and contact info is in one of my posts above. Your voice may be just what it takes to push it over the edge.

Canadians are the greatest at moaning to each other but won't let their MP and MPP know how they feel. These guys, if they hear enough complaints, might actually do something. They all want to get elected or re-elected. An e-mail takes little to no effort so there is no excuse. Get typing. :)

Just sent a mailing to my MPP Tobey Barrett. I don't know if it will help with the cause, but it sure made me feel better spouting off. I would hope the rest of you here do the same.

on tonight's peterborough newscast there was a segment on rob milligan's views about the ineffectiveness of drive clean. this is a good start, perhaps other m.p.p.'s will take his lead.

After reading all this I have a question, I have to get my 06 Silverado 2500HD Duramax tested. How will it be tested OBDII?

Yes. OBDII. Which means that it simply reads the contents of your on-board computer and its collected driving data over the past several weeks. If you system has a check engine light on, or if you have disconnected your battery or have a very low battery, your test will fail to complete. Get the test done as early as possible in case you fail and need time to repair and build up the driving data again.

Apparently, there is a brief window opening where alternate testing with tailpipe sniffers is coming on stream, but I haven't heard the details. Keep the pressure on guys with the politicians. The system seems to be is cracking.

Thanks, i had heard that the diesels weren't put on the dino before only an sniffer at idle but not having had to get it done yet I wasn't sure

That's the common sense move but when they stand to lose about $30 million a year, I wouldn't call the Drive Clean dead until I hear the decision come down. Money talks, especially when the governments are increasingly cash strapped. On the other hand, if they see that they might lose a lot of votes by not dismantling the Drive Clean programme, it will be gone. Give them a hint. ;)

one has to wonder what the cost to administer the program is ? perhaps the loss would not be that great after all. with all the cutbacks in essential services one also wonders how long and under what basis can this program be justified ?
