The service mgr knew that mobil 1 was the norm. Advisor was not advised.....now she knows. (I'll write that off as a learning experience for her).
They called 1st thing this morning re the alignment. No probs. Alignment specialist was in. They'll do it to my specs.

My dealer in Red Deer puts Mobil 1 in all their free oil changes, dry sump or not. No extra charges.
The “not dry sump” inclusive Mobil 1 is over and above GM Canada’s mandate and is a “good flag” waving for me to consider the trip from Calgary to Red Deer for my service needs (and I have 5 GM vehicles). I actually drove by toward Edmonton earlier in the month to do my truck ... as I went there to say hi to a “laguna blue” friend and pick up best priced parts at Northgate. I will stop 1/2 way soon as I think I have a few friends there too 🤔

lol, I realize this is an old thread from pre Covid time and nobody probably cares but I am a little insulted as to how quickly some of you are to blame dealerships and skilled licensed technicians... I happened to stumble upon this thread by accident browsing the CCF forums as I am a Corvette owner and enthusiast. I am also the GM licensed tech with 30+ years experience who worked on this GS C7 and I am guilty only of being a perfectionist and someone who strives to do quality work. I have modified and worked on hundreds of Vetts. There are always two sides to every story, try to remember that next time you talk smack about someone on an open forum. Just to clear a few things up the steering wheel is master splined and for those of you who actually don't know much about cars ( but think you do!) that means you can't actually remove the steering wheel and clock it a spline or two the the left or right. I did however on my own time remove the steering wheel a second time to show the customer that it is indeed master splined it is not uncommon due to build variance that we sometimes have to do a very slight toe adjustment, especially when swapping out aftermarket steering wheels. As for the fit on the steering wheel switches I did install the original switches as the customer requested but the fit was not up to my standards as they did not fit well, yes they looked ok but the fit was not quite perfect and I felt that a car of this caliber and the money spent on the new steering wheel justified me spending some extra time to fit the switches perfectly, if it was my car that is what I would want, and I did get authorization from the customer to spend extra time to fit the switches prior to doing the work... Just to add a few missed facts, the customer received a complete full track alignment free of charge to correct the steering wheel off centre when we simply could have just done a toe adjustment and he was refunded any discrepancy in charges. Remember guys be kind to others don't go bashing on someone you don't know and on a subject that you don't have all the facts... If its that easy to work on Vetts then maybe you should invest in some tools and do the work yourself. Cheers and see ya at the car shows and meets. ;)

agreed once you get all the facts, or most of them the decision is much easier to make

any bashing that took place was not only based on the facts as presented but on a genuine effort to ensure proper work was done

and just so you know they call them STEALERSHIPS for a good reason

you have indeed provided extra valid information and perhaps as a learning experience you could relay this to the service writer or the person who does the billing to put an extra explanation in order to inform the customer ( the one that pays the bills and your salar) so that there is an easier transition from work to payment

you may have 30 years pulling wrenches but in the same vein some of us have had 45 years of dealership experiences that were less than satisfactory

case in point in the mid 70’s gm paid to have leaks corrected in the rear end

NOW THEY CALL IT WEEPING AND IT IS NORMAL AND DO NOTHING TO CORRECT THE ALLEDGED PROBLEM

anyway welcome and enjoy the forum

also for the sake of a bit of a historical view I used to act for about a dozen dealerships in my legal career

most only lasted about a year or a dozen small claims lawsuits as I told them we don’t lie on the stand and don’t try to bs the courts

some lasted 20 years however and were happy for me to intervene on their behalf

later eh

I just saw this reply from the tech. I just want to say that Leggat did make it right after speaking to Marc (general manager). However, I will stick to my words I previously had said.
To the tech, congratulations on your 30years of experience you are right in saying that you probably know more about cars than myself and others on here but being that you are a perfectionist wouldn’t you have had to make sure the steering wheel was straight before sending the car back to the owner?
You are also making it sound like I should be grateful that you did a full alignment free or charge on a car that I had just picked up.
If I picked up a brand new c8 at Leggat and it turns out that it is out of alignment, would you normally charge a customer for a full alignment on a brand new car?

Marc has made me like Leggat again but I am curious to hear your response. And I would like to document it. Have a great day!

wow I really did not expect anyone to reply or even care, I felt I just needed to tell my side of the situation as a few comments were directed at my skills or I should say lack of skills which was un called for as I am more than qualified to repair and modify Corvettes and actually enjoy woking on them and for the most part enjoy talking with the owners. First off I would like to say I really liked your GS the wheels and steering wheel mods looked sweet but just to be clear it is not normal procedure to drive a vehicle after a steering wheel replacement as warranty does not cover the techs time and customers will not pay extra for the techs time to road test the vehicle, now that being said usually we have our shop Forman drive the vehicle and verify alignment but as I can recall you were waiting for the vehicle and I was being rushed to hurry the repairs which probably resulted in the Forman not road testing the vehicle, obviously a mistake on our part, no excuses. As for a track alignment, yes even if you just purchased a C8 it would not be coved by warranty and there would be a charge at most Dealerships (or should I say Stealerships, as the jabs continued) but at Leggats we often comp the 4 wheel Track alignments for our loyal Corvette customers. Warranty only covers a toe alignment unless repairs were made that disturbed the camber/caster. Look I'm not trying to say all circumstances are perfect, just defending my integrity, I'm old school and still believe in work ethics and pride in workmanship, if my name is on a job/work order I want it to be perfect... Thanks for listening to my rant and I am happy to hear you are good with Leggats again Marc Stahl is always fair and believes strongly in taking care of our customers... Cheers.

Oh and as an after though the issue with the licence plate bracket was simply a miscommunication between sales and service, we are human it happens sometimes, right... Believe me we are not in business to rip people off. Woking at Leggats for 15 + years now I have seen fist hand how the Dealership prides itself on its reputation and will take all customer complaints very seriously...
