Whether the event was contrived or whether the powers that be have found a convenient medium, the government(s) have been able through hysterical media, predictions of doom government briefings, government funded mathematic modelling showing it is the end of humanity (a touch of sarcasm), a rush to borrow literally trillions of dollars to fund a “recovery”, and an actual mortality rate that has Alberta numbers less than were killed on the Deerfoot last weekend, for other agendas.
Guaranteed income discussion has been revived. Yesterday suggestions were floated by media groups that a one world government would have been better equipped to handle this “crisis”. We have lost civil liberties, told where we can go, when we can go, and when he have to be locked up in our cottages.
Meanwhile a Russian/Chinese spat over oil is driving out profitability in the resource sector leaving that industry crippled. The cost to rebuild greater than the cost to employ green philosophy.
I am not sure exactly but I believe my friend thinks that going forward we need to be very vigilant and prepared for instability in the coming months and years.

I agree with your "friends" last line... The rest, not so sure...yet.... Other than the loss of civil liberties. If we're going to kick this virus, contrived or not, someone has to curtail the thousands of idiots country wide who have no regard for their fellow man. If it has to be enforced as to "where we can go, when we can go, and when he have to be locked up in our cottages" to rid our country of this pandemic sooner rather than later, than so be it. These people have brought this upon themselves by their stupidly, and for this, we all must pay.

Additional restrictions to stop spread of COVID-19
March 27, 2020
To protect the health and safety of Albertans, mass gatherings will be limited to 15 people and more restrictions will be placed on available services.
As a result of the evolving COVID-19 pandemic, attendance at certain businesses and organizations across the province will be prohibited effective immediately.
Restrictions will be in place for the following classifications of business:
- Close contact businesses including hair salons and barbershops, tattoo and piercing studios, esthetic services, as well as wellness studios and clinics and non-emergency and non-critical health services provided by regulated health professionals or registered professionals including dentistry, physiotherapy, massage, podiatry, chiropractic and optometry services.
- Dine-in restaurants will no longer be able to offer dine-in service. Take-out and delivery services will continue to be available.
- Non-essential retail services that fall into the categories of clothing, computer and gaming stores, and services in shopping malls and shopping centres such as hobby and toys, gift and specialty items and furniture.
In addition, people are prohibited from attending gatherings of more than 15, and they must observe two metres of social distancing. This includes:
- open spaces such as trails, fields and parks
- public and private gatherings where people are brought together in a single room or space at the same time, including funerals, weddings and other formal and informal events
Workplaces that have not been ordered to close can continue to have more than 15 workers on a worksite as long as those business maintain public health measures, including two metre social distancing, hygiene enforcement and processes that ensure that any person who is ill does not attend these spaces.
Any business or organization not following the public health order will be subject to a fine. Courts have the power to administer fines of up to $100,000 for a first offence and up to $500,000 for a subsequent offence for more serious violations. Individuals aware of any businesses violating these orders should submit a complaint online immediately.

That quote should be kept in its original context. Allow me to elaborate:

Personally, I have no problem with any of this. This is totally necessary and about damn time to contain and eradicate this virus as soon as possible. People can only look upon themselves as to why this was and is necessary. They had a choice. This is not a virus carried indiscriminately and uncontrollably by the air... It is transferred from person to person and from objects that infected persons have touched, coughed on or in the case of Walmart, licked. Fortunately for those who believe their essential liberties are being curtailed out of a needless totalitarian attempt by our government, I am not in a position of governmental power, as I for one saw this coming a long time ago and would have closed our borders and taken all of these and likely more stringent actions in January. But that's just me and my sincere wish to not be in this same position, or worse in September... or God forbid longer than that.
Just everyone be safe. Protect your personal space. This is more important than philosophical/idealogical positions. You are all friends and it would hurt us individually and collectively if someone from CCF fell ill or worse.

Yes Eric where I was it was obvious what was coming. I really didn't think I was going to make it off the ship; nevermind all the way home here. Sure enough within a day after I got home the airport closures and cancelled flights started. My Back2back is stuck on the ship and we have been in meetings (video conference) for days trying to figure out how we keep the ship which is supplying natural gas for power generation running with a minimum crew. Nobody was ready for this one....and certainly the response was way to slow.
My buddies automotive shop is still open in Stony Plain, Alberta. It is deemed as an essential business. His new business motto is, 'WE WILL FIX YOUR CAR, OR DIE TRYING!"
How is an automotive shop an essential service??

Derek was one of the lucky ones to make it home. There are an awful lot of Canadians scattered around the world wishing they were home, undergoing all of the restrictions on their daily lives. Instead, they are stuck in foreign countries with no idea when they will be able to get home or even if they will survive the virus in the foreign country so that they will make it home. This discussion about civil liberties etc... is all first world problems that most of the world only wish they had. I could go on about first responders dealing with the unknowns but everyone gets my drift. Be smart, tough it out, stay safe and remember, wash your hands.
