Road courses -- Mosport (Canadian Tire Motorsport Park) isn't too far. You'd enjoy that .. some of the guys here have been and participated.

I will do my best to have a time for the trip selected as soon as possible. I am thinking that as the winter ends and it starts to warm up in your neck of the woods I'll have to start monitoring weather forecasts for your area and mine and places inbetween. I know that the weather can change but it would be a start. Then I can make arrangements for my flight etc.

This could be a whole lot of fun!

What also works out good for the bulk of those who would also participate? Weekday or weekend??

I havge to say it might be good for me to learn to launch properly before I make my trip to Grande Prairie to meet the car club members there!!

I might have to start considering a longer stay in Ontario than I had planned!

Colin, how much of a challenge is it to get onto the CT Motorsport track? While the acceleration of the car is fun sweepers and corners are exciting too!!

I've not been recently but I believe Manny, LSXtasy and some of the guys have in recent years and would know all about that.
Manny sounds like he has an 'in' there by his post above -- at least he can help explain all about it.

Would be cool to go -- an event to remember for sure.

It does sound like it would be a great car and social experience! With a road course and drag racing to add to my one autocross I'd complete the trio of race types.........

I'd have to know a date in order to get the cottage for that weekend.
CT Motorsports Park is a bit different as far as ease of getting on. Normally a business or club rents the track for a day or weekend. It's not normally a last minute type thing.
Grand Bend is a little over an hour away (from me), and that's taking it easy. Test and tunes are open to everyone and easy to get into, but if Manny is able to rent it out then that's way better. Keeps some of the yahoos away.

Can they e-test an out of province vehicle???? Sounds harsh. Maybe escort me to the provincial boarder and throw me out perhaps.........

Maybe they'll be a sympathetic OPP officer. My first job when I was 15 was working for a local provincial park. The rangers and the RCMP used to spend time together being the local law enforcement types. Joel the RCMP officer actually had a silver Corvette now that memory has been jogged. Surely he can't be the only one.

Maybe we need to invite a local detachment Corvette owner along if there is one??!!

I'm sort of getting excited, road course or 1/4 strip I'm sure to learn a lot about how to handle the car better from all you fellows with more experience. It would be good to learn how to launch the car as I hear even the GM test drivers had problems getting it right and being consistent to get the stock Z06 to run an 11.7 sec ET.

i don't know what it's like today but way back when, you didn't want to get into any contest with an off duty copper in his personal car - on the strip or otherwise. if you beat him your plates and car were noted and you became a target. i don't think you need to ask how i know !!! :swear:

Gee so there were ego problems with the police even "back in the day"? Never raced Joel the RCMP officer myself of course (my ride then was a Datsun 720 diesel pickup truck!!) but he was a pretty decent and civil guy..........but sadly law enforcement officers do tend to have a bit of a reputation for egos, dropping steroids and having two sets of rules, one for them and one for us.

Well, we could at least invite them to the track if any of them are customers to show them how we kick things legally.

i dunno garry, past experience tells me that the " cowboy " mentality is alive and well. these guys would note your car at the dragstrip as well and make damn sure you got harrassed on the street. one friend got it so bad he had to change cars !!!
 
Wow. I guess maybe I'll be glad that I'm just visiting!!

My only experience here was just to have an oncoming RCMP car flick his lights on at me and he just lifted a finger in warning (not that one either).

But I've heard of people with aftermarket hood scoops and loud exhaust being pulled over and given a working over.

The good thing about a totally stock looking car perhaps.

Maybe I can borrow Manny's license plate? I'm sure he's already on the "being watched" list anyway!!

Back in the day; I had a friend get stopped on his way home from the drags. He went into a spiel about " blowing his chances now." When the officer asked him what he meant, he told him about writing the exam for the OPP (which he had) and the nice policeman let him off........ not quite a good ending.
Seems it was only a few weeks later that my friend on his way home form the drags once again got pulled over....you guest it; same cop; only his story didn't work for him this time.......

True story.
 
I've always liked sleeper or at least semi sleepers. I never had loud exhaust nor loud colours. No big scoops either. I never needed police attention and if you had a quick car, the word got around.....well to most people. An Edelbrock supercharger setup that fits under the stock hood would be perfect. I remember the cops sitting along the highway near the village of Cayuga picking off the guys being mister race car going home after the races. Come to think of it I never got a ticket except in my 283 Beaumont on 401 and in our 2005 Jimmy, never in any of our musclecars.
 
Here in Vancouver we had police stationed at on end of a long bridge with decibel meters in hand. They then pulled over every motorcycle, made them rev up their motors. If the readings exceeded allowable noice levels they were ticketed and given a time limit to change their exhaust, and come back and have them retested.

So, still at 202 lb, now for 5 days. I know it is just a number but to get below 200 will be a huge boost for me.

I had a great day of exercising though. In the morning 4.75 km including a quick 800 m sprint. Then 1.2 miles on the treadmill. Then in the afternoon 8.07 km on the dike of which 7.57 km was run without a walk break! The dike trail was not in very good shape, lots of ice and I had hoped that my pace might be in the 6:30 range. I didn't bother to check it until I got home and downloaded my Garmin and I was shocked when it was 6:08! So that was about 46 minutes of solid running and at a pace I would have to say I am happy with under the conditions.

I had actually considered going to meet with the running club this morning but chickened out at the last minute and also with the realization that I would have a hill to do regardless of which way I went and as this is how I damaged my right heel 3 years ago I don't want to push my luck. But on Wednesday night the club meets to do the dike section and that is all flat. But my previous longest run in the past 4 weeks was just over 6 km and certainly not at a good pace so I guess I wanted to test the waters to see if I could do it non-stop. As it appears I am good to go I hope if work allows to head out Wednesday night for my return...........

On the plus side I was even able to go down an underwear size!! No greater boost to one's feeling of self-woth than losing weight.
