Interesting picture. A Napier Sabre engine. 24 cylinder sleeve valve design. According to those in the know there are no running examples of this engine and only a couple of cores that possibly could be rebuilt.

Interesting that like the other bomber that Vintage Racer pointed out earlier this one does not appear to be armed with the guns Eric used to have... :Biggrin:

Night time bombing was done from high alititude in WW2 in Europe since the bombers could not be seen and as easily targeted. Thus the reason they just used to blanket the sky with flak in a pattern they hoped the bombers had to fly through. Daytime bombing was done from low altitude to not give flak gunners a longer view and window to target and shoot the planes down since they could be seen. Seeing the black puffs of daytime flak would be bad enough but seeing all the tracers and bursts of light and search lights at night would increase the ole pucker factor me thinks..
