Car Wash--have you tried?

J.R. (No, not THAT J.R.), Jack Raccoon uses a touchless one regularly. I tried it and there are far too many places to trap water. When you drive off it just runs out and spots everywhere. It gets into the engine bay and spots up the rear glass etc.

I made a video of my C8 coupe going through the automatic car wash at work and when I posted it I had so many negative comments on the big Forum it was like I was considered a serial killer. Yes the water goes into the engine bay. Yes I'm sure I had swirl marks after hundreds of car washes over thre three years I owned it but in the end I did not care at all as I have a herniated disk in my neck and washing by hand is not an option. I also got $10,000 more than MSRP when I traded it in. So in the end it made no difference at all. I do the same with my HTC.

I use an autospa in my area. It is touchless but they power wash it well before it goes in. It is hand dried after (including wheels and water channels). They charge me C$30.00/wash. I am very happy with the way it turns out. I don't have the time or energy to hand wash them.

Is the C8 car wash friendly? Don't kill me for asking--i'm just curious. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts. ty
I always wash my cars myself, especially the C8 because of the same reason Murray mentioned and more. I wax it myself with ceramic wax but now use an electric buffer because the ceramic in it makes it harder to buff, than regular wax. It still is your choice though, I am a perfectionist in everything I do.

Other than Murray’s reasons, I don’t understand why people say you can’t go through a car wash. Is it because of the water pressure? Is there concern this could damage something?
The reason can’t simply be the water making it wet.
Also, I do realize the tires won’t fit the tracks in that type of car wash, but touchless ones don’t usually have tracks.

Nothing wrong with a car wash. It s pride thing , maybe. I like cleaning my cars myself. I used to enter show and shine shows before owning a Vette.

C8 engineers don't recommend it because of the detergents they use can compromise engine compartment rubber etc.
This came with my car. No brushes, no tire tracks and no overhead sprays.

Murray,

I do agree with you that all C8's have this tag hanging in the interior when you take delivery but I think you're reading into it too much, I take it as no friction brush washes or tracks but I believe overheads sprays are fine, can't be any different then power washers

No, it clearly says no overhead sprays. But I take nothing from it. It's their recommendations and nothing more IMO. And BTW, they also recommend that you don't get your own wash in the engine compartment

I go though touchless car wash all the time with no issues
C'mon That's B.S. you get water spots or you stop and dry your car outside the wash. Don't tell us they do a perfect job.
