I think the price issue had to do with the design choice they made, standard ceramic brake to save weight, magnetic suspension standard to make it comfy with all the added weight, this all adds up in the end.
My understanding is that there's a spot in the ZR1 just the right size for the electric motor.I know what we need, A Z06 E-Ray . Call it a Z-Ray. Best of both worlds.
It would warrant a 2nd thought but I am still not 100% sold.Denis, this year the Z06 starts at $146,299 or $58,600 more than a base Stingray coupe. Not 70K less but if the Stingrays starts at $87,699, the E-Ray started at $123,799 and the Z06 is at $146,299 would that gap make the E-Ray more appealing to you and the public do you think?
You also have to factor in the Luxury tax and HST. You can buy a nice 2nd vehicle with that aloneIt would warrant a 2nd thought but I am still not 100% sold.
Actually Darrell, as a fan of the car, I was trying to determine how much more interest there would be if it was more of a mid priced model? From some of the responses here, it seems as I thought and as I expected, if the car had a starting price give or take 20K less than it is, there would be more interest? I had a call about another E-Ray allocation this week and lots of people saw the post on here but the response is crickets-none! E-Rays are sitting unsold and have been ordered for dealer stock for some time now. I know a number of people who have gone from the Z06 back to the Stingray because it's to fast, loud, and choppy not to mention the worse fuel economy. Would those people have looked at an E-Ray instead if it started at 123K instead of 139K? That was my question to the group due to the lack of interest.I find it rather comical that a group of grown men is so quick to downplay the obvious merits of the E-Ray, based solely on 'noise'.
It's a 'macho' thing, right?
A real man's car is meant to be loud, right?
There's no other plausible reason for it.
It's too bad though, as if you were to set aside those neanderthal attitudes, you may come to realize the E-Ray is not only as 'good' as the Z06, but in a lot of ways it's better.
In the US I have seen some dealers discounting the Z06 5k. As others have said the Corvette is no longer the working man's sports car. With the luxury tax and HST it's getting ridiculous. If all models were reduced it would be awesome!Actually Darrell, as a fan of the car, I was trying to determine how much more interest there would be if it was more of a mid priced model? Personally, I don't think the car needs to be discounted at all.Actually Darrell, as a fan of the car, I was trying to determine how much more interest there would be if it was more of a mid priced model? Why do you find the Z06 more attractive?ERay was priced too high for my liking/budget. Nothing to do with its technology. For almost the same price, the Z06 would be more attractive at that price point for me.
Hopefully, GM wouldn't do the same strategy with the GS? Luxury Tax is a killer for some of us that does have a generous budget.
No tracking. LT6, lighter, etc..Why do you find the Z06 more attractive?
You plan on doing a lot of tracking, or just love the 'noise'?
If the luxury tax (or financing in general), becomes a "killer", I'd be looking at a nice Camaro (or a gently used Corvette)
These cars are all nice to have, but never lose sight of the fact they are nothing but fun 'toys' - don't let owning one become a financial burden.
What is your budget as I know of a used E-Ray 2LT that is available if you can tell me what works for you?No tracking. LT6, lighter, etc..
Yes, all fun toys definitely. Bought my C4 ZR-1 at msrp and sold it for $15k years later with many kms. Don't own one since. I know what these cars are. lol..
No thanks to Camaro or Mustang.
A gently used C8 is my last option if the msrp GS is out of my comfort range.
C8 and a magnuson superchargers is not an bad option. Or buy an used Eray when they are in my projected price range. That may come sooner rather then later if interest is weaning?
Many options.
Don't take my view as a slight to all you Eray owners. I was on an Eray list before the price release of the Z06.
Thanks for your help but it is not the right time at the present. A year from now would be ideal. What is your budget as I know of a used E-Ray 2LT that is available if you can tell me what works for you?
It won't be more power than the E-Ray and you'll be waiting 3 more years not 1 but don't mention to anyone that I told you! Thanks for your help but it is not the right time at the present. A year from now would be ideal.
Plus I am intrigue of what that new LT3 DOHC has to offer. Endless options. More options come to those who wait?
I don't expect it to produce the same hp as the Eray..It won't be more power than the E-Ray and you'll be waiting 3 more years not 1 but don't mention to anyone that I told you!
There it is again - another potential E-Ray customer lost to the 'noise' of the Z06.I would consider an eray over the Z06 if it was $25,000 cheaper. Right now the price is so close it makes no sense to me. Why would I pass up that glorious sounding flat plane crank motor in the Z06 for just a few thousand dollars buying an eray? GM messed up on price and the government did too with the luxury tax.
I'll be waiting a few years and then buying a used Z06 to save money.
