C8 First Oil change

Picked up my 2023 last month, dealer says 1st DCT filter change is not covered, just 2 complimentary LOF. Does anyone have conclusive answer as to whether DCT filter change is covered on 2023 C8?

Yes. Take this to your dealer.

Actually, to correct my other post, the DCT filter change and fluid top up has been included since MY 2022.

Can you edit and correct your previous post. As you noted it contains incorrect info.

Everyone, I originally uploaded the 2023 home office letter to let everyone know to wait to do your first oil change at a dealership at 12,000 km so you will get the $850 DCT filter change for free. If you feel the need to change your oil before 12,000 km, do it somewhere else. You should be able to monitor the level and top up as well as look at your oil life percentage and decide when you feel it's necessary. This oil is intended to make it to the 12,000 km mark by topping it off without changing.

That could be 4 years for me 2 reach 12,000 km. Use or lose - LOL.

I don't believe that is correct. At the bottom of the memo attached here, if I read it correctly, it states to refer to the MY specific memo.
2021-601, 2022-601 and 2020-601 and their specific revisions. I have none of those, but I don't believe they include the DCT change.

I’m just referencing Raymondo’s post, copied below. I don’t know how to link to it.

Nov. 2, 2022, I had the first free oil/filter change done around 6,000km. I requested that the trans filter be change at that time. Dealer stated that they would not be able to change the trans filter as they 'were too busy doing winter tire change overs". Several posts have stated that the transmission filter "must be changed at the first free engine oil/filter change" as per GM per 2022-601R02 but it states "are eligible for a DCT filter replacement ...". So does that mean it has to be changed or not at the first free change? So was the dealer was remiss in not doing so and will GM deny having it done at the 12,00km at no cost?

Or if my transmission has issues, would GM deny a claim under warranty because of this even though it isn't required to be done until 12,000km per the maintenance schedule, it was eligible to be changed to be changed but it doesn't say "has to be done" at the first free change?

If they had changed it at that time, then changing the filter at the required 12,000km would be on my dime which is okay by me.

Planning on having the second free oil/filter change done late Oct. between an estimated 10-11,000, not quite within the 12,000km +/-800 needed for the filter to be changed.

I don’t know whether the free dct filter change has to be done at the first oil change. Others seem to think so. Seems kindda ridiculous when the manual says it needs to be done by 12000kms. Which most C8 owners will be lucky to hit by year 3. Also, as long as you follow the required maintenance schedule GM cannot deny warranty claims.

Your not in trouble with your warranty because you haven't had the DCT filter change done up until now. When you book the next oil change you need to remind the dealership that you asked them to do the filter change the last time and this time you expect it to be done regardless of their schedule. How they bill GM for the $244 filter kit and labour is up to them, but as far as your concerned they still haven't finished the job you asked them to do 10 months ago.

Free, and required, are two different things. You are required to do the DCT filter at 12k whether or not it is free is between you and the dealer/GM.

My warranty is not void because I did not take advantage of a “free” service.

If don't get the DCT filter changed at 12,000 km then the warranty on your $20,000 transmission could be voided. Whether you choose to pay for the $850 job, that's between you and your dealer. The original point of posting the home office letter was to try and save new owners money that those of us who had 2020 Corvettes had no similar offer available.

There is still a lot of confusion based on our use of different terminology and the dates involved and the "free services". I hope I am not adding to the confusion but I have spoken to three Chevrolet Service Managers here and they are all in agreement as far as service required, but oddly had a slight variation in "free" services that differed based on years of the C8.

Terminology: There is engine oil/filter, a DCT cannister filter, and DCT fluid. They all have separate schedules. There is no such thing as "DCT service". We need to be specific in which DCT service in our discussions.
1. Engine oil/filter at 12,000 km or based on Oil Life System but MUST BE CHANGED AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR.
2. DCT cannister filter. First at 12,000 km and then AT 36,000 and every 36,000 km after. The wording in the manual note 5 implies after 36,000km ie 36,000 plus 12,000 so 48,000 but that is wrong and all the Service Managers agreed AT 36,000
3. DCT Fluid. With/without monitor its at most 72,000 km but most of us are low mileage so Note 4 EVERY 3 YEARS.
The manual provides a suggestion that if doing a DCT fluid change and close to the DCT cannister change, do both.

OK so a little discussion: I am under 12,000 km a year so will change the Engine Oil/Filter yearly just before storage.
Since I am not driving 12,000 km a year, I will not base DCT Fluid schedule on mileage so need to change it EVERY 3 YEARS. GM lines up the DCT cannister filter with the DCT Fluid based on mileage but I will never get there so my decision (after first DCT cannister change) is to just do DCT cannister and DCT fluid at the same time.
So my schedule is very simple: Engine oil/Filter once a year. DCT Cannister AND DCT fluid once every 3 years so October 2024, October 2027 etc. I will do the first DCT cannister change at about 12,000 km at the same time as I need Engine oil and DCT fluid.

Free: 2021 I have received 2 free LOF and had both done. 2021 there was no free DCT cannister change.
2022 it gets weird because some Service Managers indicated there is a free DCT cannister change but its date based for 1 year only. One Service Manager stated if you take advantage of the "free" DCT cannister change and have just a few thousand kilometers you should do it again at 12,000 not free. The others told me you can change the DCT filter early to take advantage of the free service but don't wait till after 12,000 km. Finally my best advice is to call your Service Manager and discuss since this post probably did not help.
