C7 best mileage????

I may just be your poster boy for the "Older Than Dirt" group. Turned 70 in May, two heart operations in the past month and have always been into muslcecars since the musclecar era. '66 396 Beaumont, '68 Ram Air Firebird, '69 COPO Chevelle new, '68 SS396 Chevelle convertible, '69 GTO, '72 455 4 speed Lemans Sport, '69 L78 Chevelle. 10-12 mpg was the norm for the old 427. A best of 35.1 mpg Imperial is a best for our '05. I don't save any money on gas. We just drive that much more. I always say that our car idles like a Grandpa car, but then again, I AM a Grandpa 8 times over so it is ok. Behind the wheel, we old white haired farts are just old kids at heart. Just get out there and enjoy these great machines. Every year, they just get better.

My 66 396 Chevelle cost me a dollar in fuel per mile I drove over the last couple years, but every mile put a smile on my face!

To say we've come along way in power and fuel economy is an understatement.

Last Thursday I traded in my 2006 Corvette z51 manual and drove back a new 2016 Stingray Z51 manual in LBR with 5km on odometer from Toronto to Ottawa in Eco mode averaging 4.7-7L/100km. Hovering speeds between 100-130km/h. Sipped half the tan-remarkable! The other half went in a few hours showing off the car:) That reminds me-I gotta change my pic on this forum.

I drove my C7 in Eco mode (4cyl) once or twice and got around 8L/100Km. I was quite proud of myself until I realized I was driving it wrong and making Zora Duntov turn over in his grave...

I flipped it to Eco this last trip through the mountains for a few miles, scrolled to the readout showing me how many cylinders it was running, and the only time it dropped to V4 was on downhill runs... Oh well...I already have a 4 cylinder anyway... Sport mode it will be! Sounds better too...

OK, maybe a dumb question but I really do not know. Could you actually drive the car in "valet" mode? I always thought it was truly just for handing off the car to be parked when you did not want the valet to be driving the $@#* out of it. I also cannot recall exactly how the "valet" mode was activated?

This was an excerpt from an actually very interesting write-up on the C4 ZR1.... won't mention the name of the site....

A special feature for this car/engine package was called the valet mode. This allowed the owner with an in dash key to have full power (375 hp) or turn it off and limit the output to 250 hp. You could only get this car with the manual 6-speed transmission.

So with that being said Murray, a valet could still drive the $%^& out of the car but not with the full power available. That would at least take away from his fun a little.

The valet mode on the C7 has a few more advantages. Although it doesn't restrict power ( which is very unfortunate) the PDR records every second of the valet's driving. So you have the opportunity of telling the valet this when he takes the car, and how he will be unemployed, sued for billions, and have the $hit beat out of him every day for the rest of his life if he drives your Vette like an idiot.

The being sued for billions may be an exaggeration... Ok... no guarantees that he will be unemployed either I guess.... But we can still beat the $hit out of him and then go to jail for assault... Ok.... screw it... I'm not turning valet mode on ..... better yet, I.m not going to let anyone drive my car unless I'm in the passenger seat.....

Thanks Eric. So it could be driven, not that you would want to of course, on the roads in "Valet" mode. Geez only 250 horsepower would be like giving him the keys to a C5!

on the C4 ZR1, the valet mode deactivated the secondary air runners in the intake and the second set of injectors, which restricted the car's ability to breathe, thus less power. It was like the modern day equivalent of disconnecting the secondary cable on the carburetor to make your four barrel only run on two barrels. LOL.

Little lost here, the car has a button that switches to either metric or imperial. Can this not give you both and no conversion is needed.
I also have a great way to do a test how about a nice drive on Saturday the 24th. Not sure where but that can be suggested, be nice now. Any one looking for a group drive , stop for lunch, take a few pics. We are for this. In Ontario some where.

My best mileage averaged over 50km was 6.2 l/100 km.. around 45 mpg (imperial)

All downhill.... Lol.... Just kidding. My best was Red Deer to Vancouver and return. Trip average was 7.2 litres per 100 km. Mine is an M7 so doesn't enter Eco mode. Nor have I ever used it. Just don't like the idea of 4 cyl's shutting down. The C7 gets exceptional fuel mileage thanks to GM avoiding the gas guzzler tax imposed by the US. At 120 km/hr in 7th gear my rpm's are at 1350. Better fuel mileage than my Rav4, my Lincoln Mkx daily driver, and my diesel truck.
