C6 rear hatch anomaly

2006 through 2008 Z06 did not have the self latching system. That feature on the Z did not appear until the 2009 model.

You have a motor closing the hatch? Mine doesn't.
Are you sure you don't have it? If you lower the hatch fully down only a light press with one or two fingers will cause it to close. Something pulls it tight, it is not the pressure you are applying by hand.

my C7 is the same way Mike. GM forgot in 2014 what idiots they were trying to save 2 pounds. After second thoughts, they installed the hatch closer on the 2016. And in my checking, it appears that it would be a nightmare to try and retrofit it to the 14/15 models. I just try to remember to leave a door open when i need to close the hatch as i refuse to slam it or push hard on the lid... One of these days I will lash out and get a window valet.

I almost alway crack a door before closing the hatch, as you're totally right about the car sealing so fast that you'd have to slam the thing to get it to close. If the doors are closed, I'll drop it from 4", then take the bottom of my shirt and put it between my hand and the paint when pushing down, above the two latches to fully close it. The C5 has two latches. I didn't know they went to one latch for the C6

Pretty much what I do too Riley. I'll leave the windows cracked about a 1/2 inch if it's in my garage and that omits the pressure all together.

Here's a vid on how I close my hatch.

Spotless clean machine as usual - looking good! It is funny that the 2008 Z doesn't have the pull down when the 2008 coupe does. You wouldn't think there is much of a weight saving.

Thanks Brent. I only post pics of it clean. Lol. Kidding aside,I've washed it 3 times in a week as I've been caught in the rain twice coming from SN-IIIs place. It always rains at his place !!

I've washed mine several times a week too on occasion. It's a labour of love though, isn't it!

Interesting Mike.... I didn't realize that the Z06 didn't have this.

My 2006 Z51 does have the handle, and it has the motor to pull the hatch closed.

Hmm,that is odd isn't it. Maybe I have the motor, but it's disabled/not working, who knows. Could be because you have a Vert? Maybe the shade of blue !! Lol. Something to compare among the cars next time a photo stop presents itself for sure.

Have the motor but no handle on the '09 3lt. Just always laid the hatch down gently onto the latch and the tiniest nudge will suck it closed.

My 13 Z06 had the motor to pull the hatch shut. Fantastic feature.
The 15 Z06 did not... sucked as closing the hatch without remembering to leave a door or window open was a constant curse moment. Really takes a lot of force without the car open as it is so air tight.
The 16 and up Z06 have the power pull down back. So next week I get my power pull down hatch again. Whew. :Cheers2:
