tsc store has battery load testers on for 19.95 - really good price !!! :D

Picked one up today -- works slick and easy to use.

I was a little disturbed to see the elements heat up and go red with heat until I realized that was the 'load' they're talking about.

The initial smoke off the element got my attention too ... turns out it was a coating that was burned off. No biggie.......(after I figured out what it was.:D)

Tested the Taurus battery... was fine.
Also tested my 2 portable booster batteries and found that one is crap. Other is fine.

I like the load tester. Haven't tried the charging system check yet or tested the 'vette batteries........tomorrow.

Hi every one, these tester use a carbon pile and create a real load on the battery. This is my favorite test but they draw a lot of juice from the battery so after the battery test, don't forget to recharge them to top them of and save some efforts to your alternators :seeya:

exactly stephane. check it with a full charge and if the battery is good give it a full recharge.

Very good point, the replacement Alt I put on my Jimmy years ago came with a note to make sure the battery was fully charged because the ALt wasn't intended to charge but to maintain.
