Attempt Theft Of C8 Vid.

Yes, I was thinking the same but you could have it hidden and I'm guessing the wannabe gangsters are in such a rush they might not figure it out 🤷
If you hide it and they don’t know it’s there, likely they won’t chase it. My bigger concern is, you put it in drive or reverse, they can’t do anything and you are on a driveway. Does it go to park when the door opens like a bmw or does the car continue to roll. Haven’t tried this yet.

The car, as delivered, merely chimes when a door is open and the car is in drive or neutral etc.

That was my worry. BMW puts to park. Imagine the dude panics and leaves. He’s not locking up and putting back to P then. lol. Gotta pray you aren’t on a slope.
If you shut the car off in drive it put puts it into park.

So will OnStar slow down the vehicle without Police intervention? I had planned on buying OnStar for the summer for the security feature. If it involves our Police, they won't respond in time and it will be a waste of money.
OnStar will not stop the car (can't slow it down AFAIK) unless they are told to do so by the Police. I owned a car rental company and tried to do this with OnStar a few times but they would not. Even more frustrating, the Police can take a long time to respond to any car theft unless the thieves are still there. Police need to interview the victim before they do anything including calling OnStar. I had quite a few cars stolen and Police treat auto theft as a low priority. They assume insurance will look after the victim, so other urgent calls take priority. Also if the vehicle is in a no cell signal area, or if it is already in a shipping container, it does not work. The only unique OnStar benefits are if you crash and are unconscious they will dispatch ambulance and they will unlock the door if you somehow locked the key in the trunk. OnStar is a waste of money IMO.

You are correct about the theft having to be reported to police before OnStar will intervene. Not only that but the police have to have the vehicle in sight . Just found this.
OnStar’s Stolen Vehicle Slowdown feature works by remotely interacting with a stolen vehicle’s powertrain system to safely slow it down during a pursuit. Here’s how it operates:
1. Reporting the Theft: The vehicle owner reports the theft to the police and contacts OnStar after filing a police report.
2. Location and Pursuit: OnStar works with law enforcement to locate the vehicle using GPS. Once the police have the vehicle in sight, they can request OnStar to activate the slowdown feature.
3. Slowdown Process: OnStar sends a signal to the vehicle, which activates the hazard lights and reduces engine power. The driver can no longer accelerate, but retains control over steering and brakes.
4. Coasting to a Stop: The vehicle coasts to a stop, allowing police to apprehend the thieves safely.

Thanks for the feedback. I unfortunately had a interaction with some car thieves a few weeks ago, where one of them pulled a gun on me. I turned my back to walk away and thief tried to fire but the gun jammed. I'm very paranoid now.

Wasn’t your time thank the gods. Go buy a lottery ticket sir . Where did this happen ? Too many guns on the street and too many guns coming over the border. Or , they can now just be 3D printed. Scary stuff.

It was in Mississauga, they were trying to steal a Tesla and I happened to be at the restaurant where it happened. I suggest that no one try to be a hero. They are all armed and stupid. They ended up not stealing the Tesla as they couldn't start it. The Tesla's cameras caught the attempted murder...could even see the casing jammed in the mechanism..it was a 9mm

All that can be said about this is HOLY #&$% . Crime really has gotten much worse over time. Have to stop the revolving door bail policies that have come about over the last several years. Something seriously wrong with this picture. Thinking back to when we were growing up and a lot of people didn’t even feel the need to lock their doors at night. Now they should be locked at all times with a few deadbolts and a baseball bat in the corner. Insanity.

Wow glad you are ok.

I live in Niagara, and I have a silly rule: I simply stay out of the GTA

The Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) is currently investigating a series of theft from vehicles, property damage, frauds, and stolen vehicle calls for service occurring overnight in typically rural areas across the Niagara Region. The incidents have been reported in the municipalities of Grimsby, West Lincoln, Lincoln, Pelham, Wainfleet, and Niagara-on-the-Lake, and have been taking place primarily between the hours of 1:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. since February 13, 2025.

The suspects involved in these incidents appear to be targeting neighbourhoods and checking if vehicle doors parked in driveways have been left unlocked. If a vehicle door is found unlocked, the thieves steal valuables left inside, including wallets, keys, and cell phones. In some cases, vehicles have been stolen outright.

Police are slow to respond to pretty much everything unless it's "Officer Down".
Reminds me of the joke:

Man calls police and reports two people breaking into his garage. Police advise that they can't come for 30 minutes. He calls them back right away and say's "no need to rush. I've shot both of them". 3 squad cars show up within minutes and arrest the two burglars who are still there.
The officer asks the owner "I thought you said you shot them". He replies "I thought you said you couldn't get here for 30 minutes"

I love that. I'll have to remember that!
Officer down, Officer down!
