Attempt Theft Of C8 Vid.

No idea but imagine having to setup your custom settings and seats and all that over and over. It’s like paying for extras you can’t use.

When spending $100-$150K CAD on a new vette, spend the $2K and just get a good theft system put in like the ghost system where you have to program buttons on the vehicle to your desire to start/stop the car and it comes with an App to kill the car remotely too.

Agreed. I had one install at my dealer. They say it was use on their Cadillacs to stop theft. Expensive. I will find out more of this system when I pick up my car.
But if you can find a more economical idea, that would be even better. Personal choice.

I had a fuel pump disable switch tucked away in the foot well on my daily, years ago.

How much did your dealer charge all in ? Thanks.

I think if you are talking about the one I showed above it’s meant to be an emergency one you hide and tuck away. The app would be smarter. You don’t want the fob with the keys to the car. Beats the point.
No, I meant the fob would sit inside with your cars fob. Many new cars fobs don't sleep which is how they get cloned. If that fob sits beside the cars fob then it too could be cloned assuming the thieves knew about it of course.

I would hope they have a security system built in it to prevent that. Don't know. If not, that would defeat the purpose of having it?
It would be great to have a hijack prevention build into it as well. ie. If the security fob is not detected, it will shut down the car shortly after.
I am sure the fob has a random set of codes each time you activate it? Similar to what I have at work to sign on to my computer along with my pw?

When you see your car pulling out of your driveway driven by some swine you can call OnStar if you have an account and they can remotely slowdown and then bring the vehicle to a stop and report the exact location to you and the authorities. Doesn’t prevent the theft but it puts a quick end to it unless the vehicle has been put an a trailer.

OnStar can't do anything without the police asking.

Any pro thief with a laptop and worth his salt can shut the OnStar down in 60 seconds.

I can't argue with you, but I point out that OnStar on the C8 is integrated into the infotainment / touch screen. It is very hard if not impossible to shut it down without affecting the car's systems. I can't remember the actual issue, but I'm pretty sure the only way to do it is to kill the antenna.

Curious. Have there been instances of that happening ? Wouldn’t surprise me actually but I have never heard or read about it. .found this…
If it is believable.
Yes, the security features of OnStar have been circumvented in the past. In 2015, a device called OwnStar was developed by Samy Kamkar, which could intercept communications between OnStar’s system and the vehicle, allowing unauthorized users to locate, unlock, or start the vehicle remotely. General Motors responded by updating the OnStar server software and RemoteLink app to prevent such attacks.

OnStar has taken several measures to prevent hacking:
1. Software Updates: OnStar has developed software updates to patch security flaws, such as those allowing hackers to control vehicle functions remotely. For example, GM updated the RemoteLink app to address vulnerabilities.
2. Security Enhancements: GM has worked to enhance the security of its OnStar systems, though it took several years to fully address some vulnerabilities.
3. Countermeasures: GM has implemented countermeasures to prevent unauthorized access through the OnStar app, including disabling certain features until fixes were available.
4. Documentation and Guidelines: OnStar provides documentation on security protocols, such as the “Stolen Vehicle Assistance” guidelines, which outline procedures for stopping the engine in stolen vehicles.

I recall us having a discussion about this before and didn’t we find out that the antenna is now a lot harder to get to ? I remember there were some schematics posted regarding it. The fuse is easily accessible but that would be a pain to do every time. Easier to get a Pitbull , lol.
