Anyone Else Fascinated By Old Locomotives?

Here’s a westbound CP passenger train approaching Castle Mountain. Morants curve wouldn’t be too far ahead from this pic location. And one at the Banff station circa 1955 according to google images. Mt Inglismaldie in the background. Lake Minnewanka to the left of that.

Nova Scotia Railways...

When I was in Nova Scotia earlier this year, I heard the tracks in Cape Breton might be getting taken up which is a shame. Not enough traffic rolling over them any more.
If they do rip all that track out,an idea would be to turn the grade into something like what the Kettle Valley railway in BC is. A purpose built biking/hiking network complete with camping locations. What they’ve done in BC is incredible. Almost 600 kms or so of trails. Meaning, you can ride along long way if you had the time. Here’s a little promo clip from some YouTuber. The Myra Canyon trestle would be one of the highlights of biking through this area.

That would have been so cool, over the trestle and right into the tunnel. Great pics Mikey.

More street running. No idea of the RR. Big electric train...

Here’s a really good page detailing a lot of rail history in Alberta. This was a good read. I could imagine “The Chinook” from 1936 was impressive for a first time passenger. That’s a nice looking train. Nice to see the ongoing possibility of a high speed line between the two cities. Travel time of 84 minutes for $65.00 one way? Can’t see that happening.
