You have to also consider that having a few of these in the showroom or on the lot drives a lot of traffic to the dealership. They might not be able to afford one but may consider buying something else.

I would suggest that the total cost would be somewhat less than $50,000 . Unless of course they were being sourced for a Government maintenance shop .
My salesman shared the approximate amount that he was getting (strictly commission) on my build and it would leave less than half of the profit for the dealership based on numbers Gilles27 reported.
We knew the cost of the "must have" kit way back in 2020 and I was considering buying the kit. I would never even think of buying it for 50K or even 5K. That's why I thought 500 sounded more reasonable. I don't remember what the cost was so I'm guessing.
Page 22 lists them. Wouldn’t be too hard to guess the cost. You are probably pretty close.
Ya, I saw that, but it doesn't say they are all must haves. If memory serves the must have kit was only about 5 or 6 tools.
I hear you. A lot of those tools would likely never be needed on most units . Duct tape and haywire and you’re good. As far as dealer profits go I think it’s similar to a lot of retail businesses, the money is usually in volume moved .
GM has been like this for ever. Whenever a new car comes out, they auto ship you all the required essential tools as per your dealer agreement. 75% of them never come out of the box they were shipped in.
My dad was partners in a GM Dealership for 15 years and back in 1993 when the new Firebird and Camaro came out you had to take $7500 of tools and that was an old non tech car. I remember my dad being pissed off because he was only getting 1 Trans Am that year.
Dont forget that things like that cardboard Corvette display that sits in the corner costs the dealer about $800 even though its worth $50 max.

Just a cost of doing business. I sold cars for Ford and Jeep for many years. I personally know most of the dealer principals from all other manufacturers in the city. They are all multi multi millionaires. Not one of them is struggling. They can cry the blues all they want. They are making money hand over fists. Especially when selling at MSRP for the vehicles with low inventory and high demand. 80% of all other car or truck models manufactures are sold well below MSRP if you shop around.
As mentioned before. With hold backs and manufacturer’s dealer incentives, they are making out like bandits.
I like it when the sales managers come out and say there is not the mark up on vehicles like in the old days.
Except for MY23. I have never paid MSRP on a vehicle. On my last 3 F150’s. What ever the MSRP was, I always able to negotiate $10,000 off MSRP. Now that calling every dealer in Ontario. I’m not loyal. I’ll go to the dealer that wants to earn my business and has the best price.
Now this is buying in Sept. buying the new non current model.
Makes me laugh when my local Ford dealer I want to do business with tells me they are making $1,000 off my factory order. We are in business to make money. Profit isn’t a dirty word they say. Says we deserve to make some money don’t we?
Then I factory order the same vehicle from another Ford dealer for $4,000 less. And they delivered it right to my door being 4 hours away from them.
I’d be an idiot to pay $4,000 more, apples to apples on a factory order to buy locally. My dealer’s response was they have to keep the lights on in the showroom. And that they sponsor a lot of teams in the area lol. I’m sure the other dealer I bought my truck from needs to keep the lights on in their showroom. They haven’t stayed in business for 60 years to lose money I told them.
And they all say, Honda, Chrysler, Chevy, Toyota, Hyundai, etc. we don’t have the markup like the other manufacturers. Bulshit. Why would you want to be a dealer principal if there wasn’t the markup like your competitors?
Dealerships are a license to print money. Don’t kid yourself. So what ever it cost them for tools? Don’t feel sorry for them.
I’ve only ever seen one dealership, Ford, go out of business in TO. And that’s because the owner was at the casino every night lol.
I did a 7 year stint for working as a supervisor of table games at the casino. So I know first hand.

“Having been” = “Used to be in the past”, but Not with GM. I paid sticker, and got some goodies. And I did not have to wait. Decision to car in driveway in 2 months or so. They scalped me big-time, right? How did u make out?
And YES, I paid well under sticker, double digits, on all my other new Vettes over the years. And other domestic makes also While in the business.

This is exactly what I’m saying. My last 2020 FX4 MSRP was $62,000. I paid $52,000. That around 15% off MSRP.
Most dealers, not all, have two sets of books. One for the principal and one for salesperson. This is what they call penciling the salesperson. We as salespeople made 30% commission with a $250 minimum deal. I know this because my GM was also my roommate. Salespersons have no idea what the real net on the vehicle is.
Where did you get this number from cause its not remotely true at all. A nice truck these days is near 100k you think dealer cost is 70k? A 3LT Corvette is 130K and it costs them 100K? Totally wrong...... Even with a 10% margin on the vehicle, financing, upsells, etc it never adds to 30%.

MSRP. You just have to find the right dealer. The deals are out there. As long as there is Supply and no demand. Vette’s the supply is low and the demand is high.
If the dealer can’t get the allocation but for the one he does get. He has multiple buyers at MSRP? You get what the market will bare.
That’s why since COVID most pay MSRP. No deals on Vette’s. Again in most cases. Even I paid MSRP

I find it funny when guys brag about getting big discounts of models that are on their last year of production when next gen has already been announced and released and comparing it to brand new in demand models.
there is nothing wrong with paying MSRP if you are not buying 5 year old leftovers that where designed 10 years ago.
