Winter is back...

yikes ! 30 below here this morning. i remember an old farmer years ago telling me that if there was a full moon toward the end of january the temperature would be " snappin' cold ". i have sort of kept track and he seems to have been right. the moon is bright and she's pretty frosty boys !!!

-22C here this morning; no wind chill at least. Got a little more snow again last night. Calling for more squalls today. Snow is starting to pile up. Skiers and snowmobilers are happy.

-12F at 8:00 AM here. Back when I was a boy it would more than likely be -25-30F with three+ feet of snow. The grass isn't even covered. Global warming is helping some of us.....I think.

blower motor on the wood stove crapped out and can't get the house above 63f. if the cold snap goes on too long we may start bustin' up furniture  it's too damn cold to out and cut and split

Yeah and it's your 'boys' that are in danger -- We call that "Brass Monkey Weather" -- :D

Hope it warms soon for you guys up there.

Fatal accident just outside of town today. Visibility is almost nill! It's been snowing all afternoon. Until this cold snap breaks the snow squalls won't quit. Windchill of -25C tonight.

wow greg, you folks are sure getting socked with it. we are just a tad colder here but only about an inch of snow on the ground. this cold has made some ice i'm starting to see sleds on the lake go by my place. still have to be careful though pressure cracks start to appear now. you can really hear the rumbling in this cold.

Yes, it's one of the benefits of living next to one of the largest bodies of fresh water in the world.

Roads are so bad here that the city pulled the buses off the road at 4pm. With so many hills in town there are people getting stuck all over town. Police here are telling people to stay home. Lots of road closures west of here. We're used to it having lived here all my life. I've seen us get 3 feet of snow in a night without a word of a lie. If you get one of those streamers off the lake parked over you for hours you're in for quite a ride.

Oh, and that car in the driveway has been cleaned off of snow every day. It's my wife's car; she's home sick with pneumonia!

Best place for her -- home in bed with that going on outside.

Sad to hear of the fatal -- let's hope everyone else heeds the warnings and stays home.

It is supposed to warm to above freezing next week. I hope it does there too.

i hope michele is on the mend greg that is a nasty ailment. i used to be plagued with pnuemonia till i got the shot for it, rarely even get a cold now. has she had the shot ?

No, it's bacterial. Not viral. She's doing better today. Hoping to return to work this weekend. She gets the flu shot every year but it doesn't help with this. First time she's ever had it. I'll tell her you're wishing her well.

Just checked outside before going to bed...you guessed it; snowing again. I see the plow has filled in the end of the lane. I guess I know what I'm doing in the morning. :swear: :swear:

That is an insane amount of snow!!!! We've only had that once where it shut the city down and it was more due to the wind with the snow than just the amount of snow itself. (I think we got only 12" that day) but the drifts were incredible. On one street I believe someone said they were 18" high!...but that's probably exaggerated a little bit.

Today, it's no longer -25 to -28 but the wind is a killer! -17 with 39km/h winds gusting to 50 km/h. Gross. I figure it should warm up around June here.

Still some interest in this thread. Finally quit snowing and sun is out today. -18 when I got up with wind chill of -25. Spent over an hour blowing snow this morning. Thought I'd post some better pics of all the snow we've had in a week.

i'll bet alot of guys are trying to figure out how to truck it over here to get their sleds out. back when i used to ride i would have been quite envious - not any more.

Speaking of sleds ,I was down to Kissimmee to the NCRS show and I saw a Smart car with Prince Edward Island plates in the parking lot .Wonder if he used as a sled part way or if it blew down with the wind .

i might just get rid of my spare tire and stick one of those little fellers in the back of my tundra !!! :D i sure wouldn't want to get caught in the wind in one of those on the bridge between P.E.I. and cape tormentine though.
