Hi fellow canadians,

the c8 is rolling out in couple months, im seeing tons of new inventory on C7 vettes across country.

I just saw a few 2019 in alberta for around 58-59k advertised.

I just want to get a very base C7 corvette. Can i possibly get one under 55k... so i can stay away from luxury car tax in BC...

i dont mind travelling to AB or any other province to drive it back.

or should i wait until late summer/ early fall and see whats left...

Well it will be a gamble to find your colour reasonably nearby but there should be plenty of base cars available well into the fall. Was at a YEG dealership with @SN-III a couple weeks ago and they got around 30 in. Most were base cars. You may yet see your 55k magic number in the fall.

When the C8 flops you won’t be able to find a decent C6 for under $55k....lol...the C8 will either drag used/current new inventory prices into the ground because everyone wants a C8 or everyone’s used/current new price will rise dramatically because no one wants one.

In other breaking news, it may or may not be light during the day or dark during the night.....

Yes, looks like the best deals are in Alberta right now.

You can buy in any other province you want but when you register it in B.C. you will pay the applicable tax rate.

When the C8 arrives there will not be a lot available in Canada and they won't be discounted so some may decide to get a leftover C7..

I believe that if there was an easy way in BC, a dealership in AB would likely have figured this out,
or attempted to if they have a large inventory and a factory rebate (or like) in hand.
This would be seen/available on many models and makes if an "Alberta" buying advantage was there.
I am not optimistic and really don't know the "ins and outs" of the BC luxury tax and what number
on a sales invoice is used. If it's the MSRP, there's no way out.
If it is another number along the way to calculating the price, then there may be a way.
Yes, Alberta might the place to try. I will PM you with some information that you may be able to explore.

It's the actual selling price of the car that is used to calculate the tax bracket.

7% up to $55,000,,,,8% to $55999,,,9% to $56,999 and 10% over $57,000.

If you have a trade worth $50,000 against a car that you have negotiated a price of $85,000 then the total tax on the difference of $35,000 is 15%. ( including the 5% gst ). so 10% Provincal instead of 7%.

The next bracket is 20% total tax over $125,000 and 25% over $150,000....

Welcome to the socialist NDP world.

not to mention that you pay FULL TAX (12%...15%...20%) on private USED CARS!! insane
That’s when on a dealer lot and not a private sale correct? I know it gets charged for dealer used cars as they credit the new sale in the trade in (no gst to the new car buyer on the trade in value). It’s an annoying grab never the less and why it’s always best for the used buyer to deal privately (although dealer used cars can come with a short term warranty). Vicious damned if you do or don’t scenario.

They changed the tax rules when we kicked out the HST.

We now have to pay the full tax on dealer or private sales on cars, boats and airplanes.

Previously we didn't pay GST on private sales..

That change was made by the provincial Liberals...Apparently to level the playing field for their dealership friends.

Whether the C8 sells well or not, GM will play their scarcity card to BS people. Give the dealer your name and offer. If they don't take it then and there, leave and put the sale in their ball park. My biggest, and only beef with these back motor cars is the lack of trunk space for anyone who wants to travel. There was an Audi R8 at a local cruise 3-4 years ago and I had a good look at it. NO ROOM for luggage. Many of us like to put miles on away from home and would like to take our fun cars and more than a little hand bag.

I’ll be driving all the way to Montana and not be able to find a spot in the C8 to bring beer back? I wonder how my passenger is gonna get home?
