Knowing what's coming, I am sure they have stockpiled parts for cars up to VIN 42629 which they are not going to hit today. They should have also stocked up on 2024 parts to get that underway. It's a wait and see when the workers decide to picket.

Detroit automakers and auto workers remain far from a deal as end-of-day strike deadline approaches
With a deadline looming just before midnight Thursday, the United Auto Workers union and Detroit's three automakers remain far apart in contract talks and the union is preparing to strike.
the strike is officialy on, but locations have changed:
GM Wentzville Assembly, Stellantis Toledo Assembly, Ford Michigan Assembly

That's the full size van plant along with Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon
Murray my current car went 3300 on Thursday July 27th and was started to be built at 6:16 am exactly 2 weeks later on Thursday Aug 10th. If they have stockpiled 2 weeks worth of parts knowing what they need to finish 2023 and start the 2024 Stingrays that would be great for so many people waiting. I heard a couple of weeks ago that there's already 1000 Z06's sitting waiting for TOG and TOF option aero parts out the back of the plant currently. Also this morning I read that the trucks will not cross the picket lines to ship the car once the strike hits the plant. I hope for the sake of Denis and many others on this forum waiting for their 2024's the plant can keep running for a couple more weeks. It will save the union a ton of money as well, as my feeling is this strike will last for 3 months based on how upset the union is with the manufacturers right now!
I am absolutely dumbfounded that Ford offered 20% and the Union is asking 40%! The best I could ever get was a lousy 2% when inflation was running at 3! Seriously? This could well go on for a LONG time.
Yes, the union was insulted when GM raised it's offer from 16 to 20% this week, so we may not see a 2024 on the road for quite some time. I really don't want to tell Cam how long he's going to be waiting for his E-Ray either!

That 40% is over the 4 year life of the contract, not all at once. But it's still out to lunch. Plus they want to work 4 days and be paid for 5, and have defined benefit pensions restored.
I agree, this could last a while. The automakers can't afford to get into a super high cost structure like what helped push them to bankruptcy in 2008. Unless we want to see the US auto industry go the way of the US steel industry. Too bad the union is too short-sighted to see this.

I agree with that and hadn't factored that in to current negotiations which are extreme.
40% pay increase seems reasonable lol….And I’m sure unions wonder why manufacturers are moving to robots as fast as they can.
40% is a joke. 80%-100% is what they should be striving for, over the 4 year term.
They had robots pre 2008.
What did the robots sacrifice during bailout times?
Was it the wage freeze they gave the companies?
Or did they sacrifice health care benefits and pension benefits, and most other benefits during tough times, like their human counterparts, so the company they work for had a chance of survival?
The companies owe them nothing! If they went under they'd have NO job! Period! They owe the company NOTHING either! The workers chose to work there and stay there. Strikes are a tool for employees to use, but they should also be realistic. The union is using money gained not only by auto workers dues but others in the union as well. I'm pretty sure they make decent wages as unskilled labourers, which I believe most are.
The big three were bailed out by the Federal Government using taxpayers money. This information is readily available online. If you feel that the cost of living is getting out of control, like most people do, give every worker in the country a %100 pay increase and see what happens. Might as well move to Venezuela .
We all have choices. We choose our career. We choose where we live. If I didn’t like my career I’d have changed it. If I didn’t like where I lived I’d move to another city, province or country.
