Transport Canada - C8 - Supercharger

Update coming on this thread, a positive one.

Currently Callaway legal counsel are reviewing the response I received from Transport Canada … quite a positive one.

I’m working on a few corners with my provincial vehicle registrar and Canada customs …

But, there might be something amazing coming here for me, and other Canadians who have the same interests.

Stay tuned

I've thought about Callaway for my Stingray but saw they didn't have it approved yet for Canada.

Anyone know the pricing for Callaway to do the work? I know they've started US builds but I haven't found anyone who has had the work done saying what it cost.

I know I could call Callaway but since they can't do Canadian cars yet I don't feel like asking yet.

Prices are all on their website

I saw this Callaway a few years back...I am not sure if that is the same thing you are referring to.

Update: I have obtained all approvals from Transport Canada now officially, visited the border and got the all clear …. Got all paperwork requirements in hand and also understand the tax implications upon crossing back into Canada.

Now working out some of the finer details with Callaway.

1st Callaway Supercharged C8 in Canada ? Let’s see ….. but nothing in my way now other than cost :)

.Don't fool around with the customs. I lived it once with a Pantera and it has been my worst experience in life. At first they put a hold on the brand new flatbed truck and the Pantera. I finally got out with only a $1100 fine but as said before I was in the system for some years. Better not do it.
Agree. We took the vette for a tour around the US. The fuel pump quit just outside of Fort Wayne. Got it fixed. $600 US, pid on credit card. About a week and a half later we were crossing up at Vancouver and the customs official asked "Did you have any work done to the car?" I asked why, and he replied "Because my information is you spent $600 on it and that should have been declared". Luckily he let it go and didn't charge or fine us. That was in 2014... Big Brother was watching then and its worse now.

This just happened ;)

Subject: Greetings From Callaway

Hi David

I’ve been trying to reach you by phone, but I keep getting a fast busy signal or an intercept say to try the call later.

Anyway, thanks to your ongoing efforts, we are now ready to schedule your C8 for the Callaway Supercharger installation. I’ve attached an order form for you to fill out and return by email. Once we have that we will establish a build window that is convenient for you. Please let me know if you have any questions about the order form.

The Callaway Team looks forward to building you a phenomenal Callaway Supercharged Corvette C8!!

Best regards,
xx

That is brutal if they have access to that information...

Gotta love insurance companies ;) Definitely an item I need to make sure I have sorted.
Just don't tell them. A friend did that and they dropped him. Most Ins. Co's won't ask or look if there is an accident.

I've been sniffing around having my C8 supercharged (or a Z06) and after getting all the details from Hennessy & Callaway ... The good ol Canadian Government is now in my way.

There is a "newish" rule in place that modified vehicles cannot be imported into Canada.

"
Why is a modified vehicle no longer considered admissible for importation?
Once modified (other than having general repairs or routine maintenance), the vehicle no longer maintains its original factory issued certification. This certification is required for importation into Canada. This also applies to Canadian certified vehicles modified in the United States and returning to Canada. For example:
  • a motorcycle converted into trike,
  • a cargo van converted into a camper,
  • adding a suspension lift kit to a vehicle,
  • adapting a vehicle for disabled access,
  • lengthening a vehicle or
  • re-fitting a vehicle with a different body kit.
"

I called Transport Canada and explained the details of what I wanted to do. I was told I could order all the parts and have the work done in Canada, no issues at all. But having the EXPERTS at Callaway in New Hampshire do the work for example, then makes my car inadmissible coming back to Canada. :Banghead:

I've sent an email to Transport Canada explaining what it is I might want to do, and see if there is any way to have it "pre-approved" ...

Ridiculous really ....
I recently had a Pro Charger Stage II supercharger installed in my C8 here in Vancouver. Way more easy to install than those mentioned. Google the product: lots of YT videos on install and advantages over the others.

Did you ever post up any numbers...

Did they tell you or did you otherwise find out how they got that information ? Only thing that comes to mind is that the shop that did the work dropped a dime on you. Perhaps there is a reporting requirement for companies that do work on out of county vehicles ? Very strange indeed.

Did you consider Lingenfelter when deciding to do it ? There is an authorized dealer/installer in Calgary. This is what I’m considering.
