I did a ZZ4 crate motor in 1997...Best thing I ever did..
Boy did that wake up the car!!

The thing that confuses me is that the motor had the problem when the car only has 65,000 miles on it. Just makes you wonder what the previous owner did to it. He did a top end rebuild on it and based on what he did with the wiring and workmanship I always questioned the work he did on the motor.

flat tappet cam without zddp additive ??? lack of zddp in the engine oil will dramatically shorten the life of a flat tappet motor.

Yes maybe. I never knew what cam he put in it so that's entirely possible. I wouldn't put it past him. Good thinking!

Ya will be fun! I think I'm going to go with a ZZ4 350 short block and then get a nice cam and heads and then throw all the goodies from my ol motor on it.

Crappy news on the engine failing... I have a 383 in mine though and I would never go back.. Part of the fun is building the car anyway

Oh cool! Very true! Unless I'm going on a cruise with my car club I often enjoy working on it rather than driving it. The sad day will be when I'm all done everything and can only drive it... Might just have to get another car by that time)) That being said I find the list for my car never seems to go away. Once you solve one problem another arises.
