Tire choices

Yes that surprised me to see that. Although I don’t have skills in this type of thing, I would have thought you would have definitely felt that if your shocks were letting the wheel hop.
If you need shocks Mike just be glad you’re not mag ride. Ouch.
Or are you?

The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is arguably one of the best tires you can get and an improvement over the PS2 and SS.

Yes Graham, getting 17's is tough these days, although I don't really know why. Lots of cars came with 17 inch wheels from the factory, but I suppose a lot of them were narrower. It really looks like you are going to need to go with a 275, but I do see a few options. You can get the Nitto 555 G2 in a 275/40ZR-17, or a cheaper alternative is the Cooper RS3-S or RS3-GI. There are still many expensive options too, but I'm assuming you are looking for some cost effectiveness and therein lies the problem.

I have the Cooper RS3 G1S on my G35 and they're great. Well reviewed, relatively quiet, great handling with light precise turn in that loads up, and good wet traction.

I want to fry opps.. try these on my car as well. The dealer told me they are not available in the C7 Z06 sizes yet though. Likely next year.

My brother has the cooper rs3s on his 550rwhp challenger. And it hooks from a dead stop with 0 spinnage. May give these a try.

That's really good wear for ultra high performance tires, and excellent with aggressive driving. Which Bridgestones, the RE050A or the S 04 Pole Position?
