I am a little confused about the term Stingray. Tis all came about when I read about the new c7 corvette and they state that not since 1967 has a corvette used the name stingray. I own a 1971 Stingray. I know that 1969 to 1978 vettes were also called Stingrays. 1968 for some reason was left off the car. Is there a significant difference between to the term "Sting Ray" written as 2 words as in 1969 or "Stingray" written as 1 word as in 1969 to 1978 model yrs ? and if not why would Chevy say that not since 1967 has a car donned the Stingray logo ?

sting ray was used from 63-67 in 68 it was simply corvette. 69-76 became stingray. up until the c7 my old shark was the last stingray. :D

From Corvette Central's catalogue...

1969 Stingray

Sorry, I misquoted some of the years. But my question is, what is the difference ? Why the change ? And why would Chevy make that statement saying that "not since 1967 has a car had the iconic Stingray logo" ? 1976 is the last year for Stingray I believe.

It's funny at car shows but I get younger people zooming in on the Stingray script on the front fenders to take pictures. I guess after all these years the name still means something even to people who were born after the last ones in '76.

So based on the statement of the new corvette being the first sting ray since 1967, does that mean it is a Sting Ray and not a Stingray?

Remember they are names. Just cause they are very close to the same thing doesn't mean they are. I like to think of them as totally different since the body style changed. Either way though I love my Stingray.

Does anyone know the font use for the script Stingray emblems?

T

So then the article stating the first stingray since 67 is just wrong. I googled the Stingray logo for the C7..... I like it. Not as much as the script, but it is nice.

Probably a typo in the article. 67 should have been 76. It's just funny that when reversing the numbers the years line up with the name change.

I don't know the font used. I don't know if windows created a font to replicate the Stingray script. I like the script better than the logo as well.

The original question as to why Sting Ray went to Stingray is interesting. I don't know why Chev changed the name.
