Like I said I'm sure people can find advantages to both, however just today I was taking a sharp corner accelerating one need to shift and the paddle was roughly over my left knee . My previous car the paddles really 2 in from the steering wheel it only took one finger no matter how the wheel was turned to shift there was no taking your hands off the wheel.
If I’m making a left turn at an intersection for example I will up shift with my left hand without even thinking about it. It’s become natural after doing it for so long I guess. Unless I’m on the highway in cruise control I generally have the TX in manual mode. Much more engaging I find. I guess it comes down to how you drive the vehicle. Maybe you can get some kind of paddle extension to make them longer ?

Use your opposite hand…..this generally is an issue up shifting. I find that when making a left turn from a stop light for example , as you say , that the up shift paddle is now on the left obviously so just shift up with your left hand as it is now right beside the up shift paddle. Simple .
Right simple. LOL. Like I said it takes getting used to. No different than a stick car where you have one hand on the wheel. You got to get used to it.

but seriously , until I started shifting with the opposite hand in those situations I also found it awkward but now I don’t even think about it.

I hear you. Give it a try and let me know if you find it helpful. Won’t take long to get used to really. Once I started doing this I wondered why I hadn’t thought of it before.
