Featured Snows are on

By Murray's BG production schedule it looks as though my HTC will be built on Friday Nov6th.
With that in mind I had conceded that I would not be driving this year.
However, the winter driving /tires convo became of interest in that it might provide a great way to break in the engine and with some ideal winter conditions be a plausible, safe way to enjoy the C8. I just didn't think it was a viable option until reading this thread.
But by the looks of the comments, it's a toss up as to whether it is a plausible and practical application of the vehicle, no matter how good the winter conditions are.

Looking at your past posts, you've got a Z51 equipped C8 coming so it'll have the summer tires. Keep in mind those tires don't function well in cold temperatures, due to the rubber hardening up which kills your grip. Murray mentioned it being OK driving on a dry road with warmed up tires. I'd be careful mixing summer tires with cold temperatures. It's one thing to use winter grips (best option) and all-seasons are far less effective (but still 2nd best option) and summer tires are the worst of the three.

Again, entirely your choice but I'd hate to hit some unexpected ice with summer tires...

I hate hitting black ice with ice tires! lol. Just ask my first 2000 Camaro SS

Stock base wheels. Looking for summer wheels. Hope the dollar goes up to 90.356...
Tires are Michelin Alpin PA4...
If you have not previously driven on the Alpin PA4's, you are in for a treat. The traction is amazing in snow and fairly quiet on pavement.

I purchased the winter wheels from Corvette Depot - they were good to work with but no bargain.

Thanks, the curiosity stemmed from what the available winter tire set up was capable of in this car. I wouldn't run the summers.

Murray no offence but all season tires are called ( no season tires ) they aren't a great summer tire and are not suited for winter even when the roads are dry because they are too hard a compound to get any heat in them. Have 2 sets of wheels with appropriate tires for the seasons won't cost any more money in the long run and way safer. In Quebec you would be banned to use A/S in the winter for good reason.

Driven on A/S tires for 10 years on the 2004 Malibu and 5 years on 2014 Malibu. Only as they aged did we need to get snows. They will work fine for what we will use them for. Not for spirited driving of course. We are retired. No rush hour. Just shopping etc. Most of the driving in the winter will be in the Malibu anyway.

RE: Murray20C8
I used to use all seasons all season, but I have gone with snows all around. The difference in traction and control is night and day. Sure, a set of snows on rims cost a few bucks, but having them on several months a year also stretches the life of your summer tires.
I too am retired and do not really drive very much in the winter, but when I do drive , the winter tires provide a big increase in comfort and , I believe, safety. No, I park the vette, winter is when I rely on my Honda Accord.

AB is bring in a ban of AS tires for winter use starting next year. After September 30, they will write tickets if you still have any tire that doesn't display the snow flake in the little triangle on the sidewall. I was told BC already has that in place.

I am super impressed with you folks that put on the snow tires and drive your Corvettes all year round! For a lot of our winter, a Corvette would be just fine to drive but I can't stomach covering my car in the winter filth. Have fun driving in winter, I bet the C8 will work awesome!

Quebec requires winter tires on all cars driven in the winter.
