Event Rocky Mountain Corvette Cruise 2021

RMCC 2021 January Update

Welcome to 2021! We will be releasing the registration forms shortly. (Today or Tomorrow) Please download and fill out the forms so you are ready to email your registration in.

Registration opens on January 23, 2021 @ 9:00 am. MST. Registrations will not be accepted prior to this date and time.

Total hotel charges for 5 nights including taxes is $863 for double occupancy. This is an average of $173/night. All hotels will have designated parking for our cars.

Our concerns with Covid are still front and center. We have worked with all hotels and have it within out contracts that there will be a full refund if Covid and government agencies dictate that travel is not allowed or the hotels must close. Based on our 2018 experience, forest fires and smoke is another item that will allow us to cancel after the closing date.

On day 3 an afternoon lunch cruise is planned on Lake Okanagan. For those who do not want the cruise we have the option of visiting the Carmelis Goat Cheese Farm. I have visited this farm a few years ago and enjoyed it immensely! The cheese and gelato are delicious.

We will not be experiencing Highway 97 between Kelowna and Vernon but enjoying the drive along Lake Okanagan through winding roads and greenery passing Predator Ridge Golf Course until we enter Vernon.

Our itinerary may change as new ideas and options come forward. Something positive to look forward to in this new year!

Bomber Command Museum of Canada

The Bomber Command Museum of Canada, formerly the Nanton Lancaster Society Museum, is an aviation museum in Nanton, Alberta. The museum opened in 1986 and was founded to protect and restore the Avro Lancaster FM159, one of only 17 remaining in the world. It has since grown to include a large collection of aircraft, many of which were used during the War by the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan.

Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump

Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump is located where the foothills of the Rocky Mountains begin to rise from the prairie 18 km west of Fort Macleod on highway 785. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home of the museum of Blackfoot culture. Joe Crowshoe Sr. (1903–1999) – Aapohsoy’yiis (Weasel Tail) – a ceremonial Elder of the Piikani Nation in southern Alberta, was instrumental in the development of the site. The Joe Crow Shoe Sr. Lodge is dedicated to his memory. He dedicated his life to preserving Aboriginal culture and promoting the relationship between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people and in 1998 was awarded the National Aboriginal Achievement Award for "saving the knowledge and practices of the Blackfoot people."

Largest Truck n the World

The sight of this colossal truck has been known to silence even the most chatter prone two-year olds, and occasionally even their parents. There is nothing like it! This truck must be seen in real life in order to be believed. Built by General Motors of Canada, the 1974 Terex Titan – all 350 tonnes, 66 feet and 3,300 horsepower of it – lives in Sparwood. Two Greyhound buses and 2 pickups can fit into the box, all at once!

Yahk – Two-Scoop Steve

Two Scoop Steve is a must stop on your way through the Kootenays. Excellent ice cream and milk shakes! If you get a chance you may even see the goats on the roof! You get tonnes of ice cream for the price. You can also walk down to the river and dip your feet in.

Castlegar Sculpture Walk

Castlegar Sculpturewalk is an annual exhibition of outdoor sculptures, located on a pleasant walking tour in downtown Castlegar. Viewers are encouraged to vote for their favorite sculpture via ballot - the winner of the People's Choice award is purchased by the City for the permanent collection. All of the artworks are available for sale or lease. Ballots/maps are located in red ballot boxes along the route (the start of the route is at the Kootenay Market (635 Columbia Avenue), though you can begin the walk from anywhere. Ballots/maps are also available at the Castlegar Chamber of Commerce, City Hall, or the Kootenay Gallery.

Tunnel of Flags

In 1913 the road linking Greenwood needed a tunnel under the railway tracks for access. It lasted 50 years until it was replaced with a new two-lane tunnel in 1964. The old tunnel was filling in, covered and forgotten. It was uncovered and rediscovered n 1993 when the road was again reconstructed without a tunnel. It was left above ground as a historic structure.

Over the next five years, the strange above-ground tunnel leading nowhere on the side of the road became covered in graffiti from passers-by. Then-mayor of Greenwood, Arno Hennig, decided to counter this by painting over the graffiti with flags from around the world. Hennig eventually turned this project into a community initiative for the new millennium, and by 2000, 210 country flags adorned the outside wall of the tunnel thanks to volunteers. The painted structure is aging and there is a GoFundMe page looking to raise enough money to repaint the flags.

Someone see a Sasquatch!?

We will be seeing one, if we’re sharp! About 20 km before Osoyoos keep your eyes peeled on the north side of the road. There is a large metal statue of a Sasquatch in front of the entrance to the Reagal Ridge Housing Development. The Sasquatch is often seen holding a case of Kokanee beer. Go Figure!

Crazy Zack’s

You know we would have to find something kinda, well, strange……..“Cool place to find hidden treasures...so many cool things you would have to spend days to see it all. I really enjoyed stopping here!” “Very eclectic variety!!! Blast from the past for sure!” “You'll never see a store like this never again. It’s magical!!!”

Apex Mountain Resort

We are heading to the slopes! Wait, it’s summer. That’s ok the Apex road has 11 switchbacks and beautiful views! We will stop for a quick visit and coffee and be off again to experience that road back towards Penticton along the Green Mountain Road!

Kelowna Cruises

We are in the Okanagan, we gotta get on the water!! Here’s a review from last September.

Dinner (lunch) cruise was beyond expectations... Captain Kelly was the perfect combination of humour and professionalism... food, cook, bartender ... all were above and beyond!! An undeniable experience ... one I wish we could keep to ourselves... if you want to check all the boxes out on the Okanagan. We shall return :) thank you so much!!!

Carmelis Goat Cheese Farm

We are hoping this is open. Carmelis is a family owned boutique dairy, which takes pride in the uncompromising approach taken to ensure the unique quality of its cheeses. The cheeses are produced on a small scale which enables us to closely monitor each and every cheese while placing an emphasis on our place’s design and its integration into nature, the landscape around us, and the quality of the environment.

We are located near Okanagan Lake, some 17 km south of downtown Kelowna, next to high quality wineries like Cedar Creek Estate Winery and St. Hubertus Winery, and close to the entrance to Okanagan Mountain Park. We desire to impart a sense of the breathtaking views of the Okanagan Valley and the wineries spread throughout the area.

Needles & Shelter Bay Ferries

We are experiencing 2 ferries travelling from Vernon to Revelstoke. The Needles cable ferry runs across the Lower Arrow Lake, 135 km from Vernon on Highway 6. Ferry capacity is 40 vehicles and 135 passengers. The Upper Arrow Lake Ferry is on Upper Arrow Lake . It is 45 km north of Nakusp on Highway 6 and links Galena and Shelter Bay. Ferry capacity is 80 vehicles and 250 passengers.

Revelstoke Mountain Resort and The Sutton Hotel

Final stop is at the Sutton Place Hotel/Revelstoke Mountain Resort and is a true ski-in, ski-out luxury condominium style hotel, consisting of 3 buildings connected by an underground heated parking facility and serviced by a beautifully appointed central lobby. This smoke-free property features 222 guest rooms and suites, premium amenities, and three on-site dining experiences: Rockford wok|bar|grill, The Mackenzie Common Tavern, and La Baguette located in the village next to the Revelation Gondola, minutes from downtown Revelstoke.

The resort is a true, year-round adventure destination. In summer, RMR is home to the Pipe Mountain Coaster; North America's first Brandauer mountain coaster. This exhilarating ride features 1.4 kilometres of twists and turns all the while travelling at speeds of up to 42/kmph. The Resort also features a four-storey Aerial Adventure Park, a 9-hole Disc Golf course, sightseeing, and an extensive network of hiking and mountain biking trails.

Summary

If we see something, we may stop. The trip is all about enjoying the company of people who enjoy travel, people and of course Corvette! Will we draw a crowd? YOU BET! Will we have a good time? That is up to everyone on the cruise. We have the route, the highlights and stops but it’s the people who make this a true Corvette adventure!

The Registration opened at 9 am this morning and within 3 minutes we are almost completely booked!! Now we wait for spring and hoping that as the cruise gets closer the world gets better health wise.
 
Event is Full! We actually had to talk to the hotels about expanding the room blocks. We are now maxed and are no longer taking registration as we have a few on the waiting list as well. Thanks everyone and now Jeff and I have a bit more work to do before we head out in July. Let’s hope we are in a better place with this covid thing.
