Hi all.
Newbie here with a question. Hope I'm doing this right, but if not, perhaps someone will educate me.

My C8 Stingray HTC is black, with black wheels. It does have muted red racing stripes, hood roof & trunk. But from the side view it is all black. In looking for options to brighten the side view a bit, I came across rim protectors, which I had not seen before. Apparently they are intended to protect rims from road rash, but could also be a visual addition, if I used red ones like my stripes.

I'm wondering if anyone on the forum has any experience with them, and could offer a review? Do they stay put, do they last, what do tire shops do if you show up with them installed etc???

Any info appreciated!!!!

I understand why you want to do it. If I was in the 18-26 y/o demographic I'd say sure go for it. I can't think of anyone here who has them. If you need tire repair, you peel them back off. Try it and if you don't like it, sell them on our Classified Section. Nothing ever goes wrong over there lol...

Might be a bit loud but would certainly ' brighten up ' the side view ;) although going by the pic of your car it looks really good the way it is .

Thanks, I am getting more used to the black, but my C5 Z06 was Millenium Yellow, and it wasn't drab. But hoping to get useable info as to whether those protectors are useful, or just a gimmick.

Gotcha. Took a quick look and found this...

Wheel rim protectors are accessories designed to shield alloy wheels from curb damage, scratches, and scuffs, often caused by parking mishaps or road hazards. They are typically made of tough materials like nylon or specialized plastics and are installed between the tire and rim or adhered to the wheel’s edge.Popular Rim Protector BrandsAlloyGator: Manufactured from super tough nylon, AlloyGator rim protectors are integrated between the wheel and tire to absorb impacts from curbs and potholes. They come in several colors and are TÜV and MIRA certified for safety and durability.All-Fit Rim Trim: These protectors use OEM-grade material and are available in a variety of finishes and colors. A single kit can protect up to four 24-inch rims and is designed for easy DIY installation.RimSavers (Rimblades): RimSavers are high-quality protectors available in various colors, tailored for both style and vehicle compatibility.RimPro-Tec Wheelbands: These feature customizable designs with various base and pinstripe color options. They are sold in kits, typically covering all four wheels.Effectiveness and ConsiderationsRim protectors add a physical barrier to prevent direct contact between the rim and external obstacles, helping reduce wheel repair costs. Some users report issues such as water trapping, slow air leaks, or detachment at high speeds depending on brand and installation quality.Certain tires offer rim-protecting beads made of rubber, which may be a preferable alternative for some drivers.Visual impact differs: some protectors are low-key in color, while others offer accents to customize wheel appearance.Installation is mostly DIY, with some brands offering instructional support or professional installer networks.Key BenefitsProtects against curb rash and pothole impact. Can reduce cosmetic and structural wheel damage repair costs.Allows for subtle or custom color styling options. Most products are universal-fit for standard rim sizes.Rim protectors offer a practical way to preserve wheel appearance and integrity, though careful selection and correct installation are recommended to avoid potential issues

Thanks!!! Much appreciated. I found similar info as well, but was hoping to hear from someone who has actually used them. So far nobody has chimed in, so I guess that means that they aren't very widely used, which makes one wonder why. Kinda seem like a good idea to me, and the right front rim on my Jag XJR would agree, if it could talk. Hmmmm.

Ya, I'd have said it nicer, but just stay away from curbs and potholes.

I didn't say I put the rash on my Jag rim, did I?
Perhaps folks should pay attention to what the post says before making rude comments.
My main reason for considering them was visual appeal. If they happen to be protective, that's a bonus. And I guess that's what they're intended for.

Relax. No one was being rude, just poking fun. It sounded like you did hit a curb with your Jag.
At least one person has not liked the machine edged black wheels and bought those. As usual if they had an issue with them we'd have heard about it. So I'd say your good to try them.

I do recall someone posting about them some time ago but can't remember exactly. Might be worth trying the search function top right ....

Pay no attention to the raccoon. Negativity and toxicity have become normal behavior for some. If you ever tire of a member, hover over their avatar and click the "Ignore". Poof....
