Boy have I been confused! Sorry Murray I have been posting ’58 Pontiacs instead of Chevies. Maybe that is OK? Here are my last shots at Pontiacs and then I’ll try to not screw up any more after this post. Special regarding Fuel Injection on the Chevrolet's cousin. I know most of you are familiar with the ’57 & ’58 283 small block Chevy with Rochester Fuel Injection, but how many of you, besides our American friends, knew about a Pontiac version? Of course I will not remind you of my previous faux-pas comparison to Chevy and Pontiac park lights a few postsback.

Need to find a Canadian expert from the mid 1950's who can tell us about Canadian Pontiacs. My memory tells me Canadian Pontiacs were really Chevys in disguise and I believe they had Chevrolet engines. Remember back in the day every General Motors brand had it's own totally different engine design - in GM there was Cadillac, Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac and Chevrolet. Here is what Wiki says, but I think it was for US cars..

370

For 1958 the V8's bore was increased again to 4+1⁄16 in (103.2 mm), increasing displacement to 369.4 cu in (6.1 L). The engine was dubbed the TEMPEST V-8, a nickname it retained until the end of 1960.

The fuel-injected engine became an option on any Pontiac model, carrying a staggering price tag of $500 (almost 15% of the car's base price). It was rated at 310 hp (231 kW) @ 4800 rpm and 400 lb⋅ft (542 N⋅m) @ 3,000 rpm on 10.5:1 compression. Only about 400 were produced before the fuel injection system was quietly dropped.

My coment ........Let's see what others think.

up until 1954 Pontiacs had flat head 6 cylinder engines. I can't be certain but after that I believe Chev and Pontiac all the same engines. Americans used to say about Canadian Pontiacs. Look A Pontiac with a Chev engine because the standard V8 in a Pontiac was a 348 in the States. (At least in 1958) All Canadian Pontiacs got a 283 unless you upgraded..

Pontiac designed and built most of their own engines up until 1981. Canadian Pontiacs started using Chev engines sooner than that. Some Pontiacs used engines from other GM divisions as well. The 403 from Oldsmobile, for example.
