Beginning to wonder if it is the trim that is the problem. Have we seen a car yet that both sides are equal between the bumper and the trim? It might be harder to jig the trim than the bumper. Who knows.

There has to be someone out there in 58 chevy restoration land that knows, they just aren't telling us.
 
Good eye, but if you look at the pic above and below, there had to be several different trims along the body.

Dave, I think I have found where the bumper and trim alignment answers may be.

Very interesting. Reminds me of my old BSA shop manual which basically was "put it together, if it doesn't work you did something wrong". Wouldn't surprise me if the chevy instructions read... "Assemble front bumper and side trim with bolts provided."
